TAX CUT
Robert Lanier was the first commissioner to
suggest a reduction in the county’s current
property tax levy for the 1986/1987 fiscal
year.
His proposal, which was later adopted by the
county commission, cut taxes by 0.68 mills.
That’s good news for all of DeKalb County’s
citizens.

brew word shalom is more than a
greeting, more than a token of
politeness. A rich message springs
from the multifold meaning of its
root, a message about a philosophy
of life and a conception of happi
ness. The root word for shalom,
shim, has three basic meanings,”
Doukhan added, "shalem (health),
shalom (peace), and shelem (rela
tionship with God)—meanings es
pecially relevant in a world with
much sickness, little peace and
even less genuine religion.”
Other articles in the magazine
deplored the eating of flesh, noting
=>(=
among other things that “the tissues
of the swine swarm with parasites"
and criticized the Vatican. “Though
Jesus preached forgiveness, ‘Chris
tians’ haven’t been able to forgive
the Jews for the role the New Tes
tament gives to the few leaders
involved with the death of Jesus,”
it said. “Not until 1965 did the
papacy finally ‘exonerate’ (Jews)
collectively for ‘killing Christ.’
Meanwhile, countless Jews have
suffered for a crime with which
they had nothing to do.”
