Atlanta Men’s ORT plans
Lockheed tour, luncheon
Members of Atlanta Men’s
ORT will tour the facilities of
Lockheed-Georgia on Wednesday,
Sept. 24, to get a better idea of
some of the skills being learned by
ORT students at one of ORTs
vocational training facilities, the
Helen Asher School at Lod, Israel.
While planning the event, Rich
ard Bressler, ORT president, along
with co-chairmen Marvin P. Nod-
vin and Victor D. Maslia, wanted
to give ORT supporters a first
hand idea of the skills ORT can
teach young men and women. Since
they could not transport prospects
to the School at Lod, they have
arranged with Lockheed to pro
vide a realistic demonstration in
such areas as avionics, robotics
and computer science.
Dan Ziv
Following the tour, a luncheon
is scheduled at the Northwest Mar-
riot, where two high-level speakers
will brief attendees. Dan Ziv, the
director of the ORT School at Tel
Hashomer, Israel, will discuss the
skills and trades vital to Israel’s
defense and economic security. In
addition, a representative of the
U.S. State Department will pro-
11 vide participants with an up-to-
the-minute picture of the Middle
East situation.
Limited space is available on the
Lockhead tour for U.S. citizens,
who need not be members of Atlanta
Men’s ORT.
To make reservations, call
ORTs Southeast regional direc
tor, Ed Schwartz, at 873-3950. Cost
for the lunch is $15, payable at the
Northwest Marriot, with advance
reservations.
Epstein School annual telethon
sets fund-raising goal of $30,000
The Epstein School will kick off
the season’s calendar of fund-raising
events with its annual telethon
Sunday, Sept. 28.
Volunteers will be calling
members of the Atlanta commun
ity to “Say Yes” to becoming a
friend of the Epstein School. The
goal this year is to raise $30,000.
All funds raised will go toward
offsetting the deficit in operational
expenses.
As one of the more than 60
Solomon Schechter schools nation
wide, the school’s dual curriculum
combines traditional standards with
current educational methods. The
environment allows students to ex
plore their dual heritage as Ameri
cans and Jews.
Co-chairmen of the telethon are
Dave Abrams, Jeril Cohen, Brenda
Daniels and Lynn Friedman. E.F.
Hutton will host the volunteer
callers at its Tower Place offices.
Donations, which are tax-deduct
ible, can also be pledged by calling
the school office at (404) 351-7623,
Monday through Friday between 9
a.m. and 3 p.m. Checks can be sent
to the Epstein School, 600 Peach
tree Battle Avenue, N. W., Atlanta,
Ga. 30327.
