Louise and Leo Benatar, honorees at Or VeShalom Bonds

Benatars will receive
‘Lion of Judah’ award
Louise and Leo Benatar will
be the recipients of Israel’s “Lion
of Judah” award at the Or VeSha
lom Israel Bonds Dinner on
Sunday, Nov. 23, in the synagogue
social hall. Or VeShalom Israel
Bonds committee chairmen Lenore
and Victor D. Maslia have an
nounced.
Benatar, a native Atlantan, re
ceived his B.l.E. degree from
Georgia Tech in 1951. He also
attended graduate school at Geor
gia Tech, completed studies in
printing management at Roches
ter Institute of Technology and
graduated from Harvard Busi
ness School’s program for man
agement development.
A former president of Mead
Packaging, a division of the Mead
Corporation, he joined Engraph
Inc. in 1981 and serves as its
chairman and president.
Benatar has been very active in
many local and national organi
zations, including the Commerce
Club of Atlanta and the Stand
ard Club. He serves on the Inter
national Advisory Council of the
Trust Company of Georgia, the
Georgia Tech Industrial Manage
ment Council, the Georgia Tech
national advisory board, the ad
visory council of the College of
Business Administration of Geor
gia State University and the
advisory board of Peachtree
Corners. He is listed in “Who’s
Who in the South and South
west,” “Who’s Who in Finance and
Industry” and “Who’s Who in
America.”
Mrs. Benatar, born in Chatta
nooga, Tenn., attended Indiana
University and the University of
Tennessee at Chattanooga. She
was financial counselor at Con
sumer Credit Counseling Service
from 1978 to 1981. She is a
member of ORT, City of Hope,
Jewish Home Auxiliary and the
National Foundation for Ileitis
and Colitis. She is a life member
of Hadassah, is a volunteer for
the DART program of the Jew
ish Family Services and is a
former Girl Scout leader.

ters of Congregation Or VeSha
lom. Benatar served as a board
member for seven years and was
financial vice president. Mrs.
Benatar has served as both presi
dent and vice president of the
sisterhood.
They have three adult children.

to chair Beth Jacob event
Etta Raye and Henry Hirsch
will be co-chairmen of the Con
gregation Beth Jacob Israel Bonds
Dinner to be held Sunday, Nov.
16, in the Shapiro Auditorium,

Henry Hirsch, born in Frank
furt, Germany, arrived in Atlanta
32 years ago. He received a bach
elor’s degree in mechanical engi
neering from Georgia Institute of
Technology in 1958. He is chair
man of the board of Engineered
Concepts Inc.
Hirsch has served for eight
years on the board of directors of
the Apartment Owners & Man
agers Association (AOMA) and
is its current president. He has
served on the board of directors
of the Epstein School, is co-
chairman of Project Renewal of
the Atlanta Jewish Federation
and is a member of the Federa
tion Allocations Committee.
Mrs. Hirsch, born in Pulaski,
Tenn., moved to Atlanta in 1965
after receiving a bachelor of
science degree in elementary
education from Vanderbilt-Pea-
body University. She has served
on the boards of the PTA of
Epstein School, Lovette School’s
Mother’s Club and BBYO; on
various committees of the Atlanta
Jewish Federation and is a mem
ber of the Federation’s Jewish
Affairs Committee.
The couple are active at Con
gregation Beth Jacob, where
Hirsch has served as vice presi
dent.
