You Tiger
You!
by Cynthia Williams
Sr. Reporter
Daryl Dixon, “You Tiger You,” has ac
complished more in his twenty-one years
than many do in a lifetime. Daryl, a
native Atlantan, is a senior music major
who has perfected his art tremendously
and consistently shows his talents to be
boundless. His many hobbies include
reading, singing, going to concerts and
collecting classical music.
Before his entrance into Morehouse
College, Daryl was a member of The
Atlanta Boys Choir. Performing with this
choir, Daryl did extensive travel in Ger
many, England, and Austria. Daryl has
also toured Italy with the Atlanta Cham
ber Orchestra. Daryl commented on the
trip by saying, “The trip was simply
blissful and heavenly.”
Daryl has performed with various
other organizations. These orga
nizations include the Atlanta Sym
phony Orchestra, The Atlanta Chamber
Opera Society The Atlanta Male
Chorale, The Atlanta Theatre of the
Stars and is presently a soloist anc
member of the Morehouse College Glee
Club. Daryl has also been named to
Who’s Who Among American College
Students and recently was the recipient
of eight week scholarship for study at In-
terlochen Vational Music Camp In The
Opera Theatre. While at this camp,
Daryl was named to the lead role in the
presented opera.
While at Morehouse, Daryl has par
ticipated as an active member of The
Morehouse College Glee Club and
Morehouse Quartet. Daryl has made
many solo performances with the Glee
Club such as The White House in 1978

and The United Nations World Tribute
to the late Dr. Martin Luther King in
1979. Daryl feels his year at Morehouse
have been bery profitable ones. Daryl
elaborated by saying, “Morehouse
brought a lot of exposure to me and
allowed me to sing in a lot of places.’
Daryl explains further by stating, “These
years at Morehouse have been very
good years. I’ve learned about people
and that you can do whatever you want
to do.”
People are very important to Daryl
and he feels this attitude is what has
brought him so far. Daryl feels it’s essen
tial in life to accept people for whatever
they are and not what they aren’t. Daryl
expressed his attitude by saying, “I’m
so people oriented that people do make
the difference. They’re the essence of life
and I accept everybody. We as Black
people can’t afford to segregate among
ourselves.”
In Daryl’s sophomore year he was
chosen as Mr. Sophomore for Spelman’s
Class of 1981. Daryl lists this as a top
honor and further strengthens the bond
between Spelman and Morehouse. Daryl
commented on Spelman women by
stating, “I’m really proud to talk about
Spelman ladies. There are a lot of won
derful people over there and such a large
group of intelligent and strong women.
Being named their Mr. Sophomore was
quite an honor.”
Eventually, Daryl plans to become a
professional opera singer and an U N
Ambassador. Daryl, however, does hope
to someday marry and' raise a family
also. He explains by saying, “I want to do

it all. T want to find some lady who can
share my art, appreciate it and un-
derstant it.”
With so many achievements and
honors, it would appear difficult for
Daryl to single out one particular
professional achievement. Daryl has no
problem with this task and feels this
summer at Interlochen National Music
Camp was his greates accomplishment.
In closing Daryl expressed his greatest
personal achievement by saying,
“Realizing that God is all there is in my
life and nothing more is my greatest per
sonal accomplishment. Once I realized
that, everything else fell right in place.
True enough, for rising Morehouse star
Daryl Dixon everything has fallen into
place.

Notes From Cindy’s Diary
Dear diary,
I have a very serious problem, and I
need to find a solution before it gets wor
st. I’ve been at Spelman for three weeks
now and I’m worried about fitting in.
Don’t get me wrong, just about all the
girls have been nice to me. I just don’t
know which crowd of girls I want to join.
I’ve found various groups of girls at Spel
man, and I don’t want to join the wrong
crowd
For instance, you have the girls who
walk around with the Gucci bags, Calvin
Klein jeans, and Cardin shirts. I guest it’s
no hope for me entering into that crowd.
My parents only send me $40.00 a mon
th, and I could not buy the Gucci bag for
that. I don’t know if I would want to give
up my reliable Levis for Klein jeans, any
way, I can hardly move, or breath in
those jeans. I imagine that is why those
girls walk with their noses in the air all
the time, I bet they are holding their
breath.
If I can’t afford to join that crowd may
be I can become a member of a sorority.
They get to walk together all the time,
and make neat sounds to each other
from across the campus. You know
these girls when you see them because
they wear look alike T-shirts and jackets.
I asked one of the girls could I become a
part of them, and she asked me to their
rush party. She said that they would an
swer my questions at that time. She then
gave me a serious look and said “it’s not
easy.” 1 guess she means the neat way
they make those sounds. I will tell you
more after the party.
If they don’t accept me Diary, I could
join the radical crowd. These girls are
doing their on thing, they don’t have to
listen to anyone. They have been quoted
as saying “we refuse to hold up to Spel
man snob image.” They party seven
days a week. Life is just fun and games
to them. You know these girls when you
see them also, and if you can’t see them,
you can surely hear them. It’s not hat I
would not want to become a part of
them, it’s just that Fm not smart enough
to party seven days a week and still stay
in school.
Sincerely,
Cindy Lou
In talking with you Diary, I feel that
I’ve come up with a solution to my prob
lem. For now, I’ll spend some time with
all the different groups of girls. They are
all different, and have something very
special to give a friend. Who knows by
Sophomore year 1 might have a special
place in every group at Spelman.
P.S.
ni have to write you about the guys at
Morehouse tomorrow. I think Fm going
to have a hard time with them also. Just
last week, I saw a guy with a Morehouse
T-shirt on, so I walked up to speak to
him. It was at that time I noticed he had
a dog collar around his neck, just like my
dog, Spot, back home I opened my
mouth to say hi and he started Barking!
Needless to say I hurried on, I thought he
might bite next! Fll tell you more about
•the Morehouse men tomorrow.
