Government of this State, exclusive of
any further connection whatever with
the Federal Government.of the United

vide, the Governor shall appoint to all

int Military Academy. Tho labors

"Major Anderson has also performed

tant Inspector of tho Illinois Volunteers,
serving with Abraham Lincoln ill the
"Hlack Hawk" war of 1832. He was

Artillery at the Military Academy

de-camp to Major General Scott
1838.

Late News.
Slmctkh.—This fort is built in
the water, ono thousand yards from the
land. It can only bo attacked, there
fore, from water craft. It is just finish
ed, and is one of the strongest works in
Christendom; mounted with thirty-two
pound cannon, and supplied with one
hundred rounds- of ammunition, for
each gun. It is covered, bomb proof,
and can only bo entered by the embra
sures, which an attacking forco must
crawl through, one man at a time, and
hence two men at one of these could
defend it against live hundred.

It is understood that the Commission

Humors are rife here that troops have
been ordoi od from Boston to Charleston
but tlio rumors arc discredited in high
