Fafls are fubborn things !
Riches , without health, no pleasure brings.
IT is a faa that moll of the complaints cf the
spring and fummerfeafons,artle from accu
mulated billious juices, distending the involun
tary organs, and thereby predisposing the lyl
tem forthe induftion of iuch species of due- es
as accidental circumftanceb may occasion. It
is also a faft, that by clearing the ftomaoh and
bowels occalionaliy, predifpofnion may be re
moved and good health reflored. It is, further
more, a faft, that nine tenths of difeafrs, in
their various forms sod stages, are cured, if cur
ed at all , by the agency of purgative medicines,
blood-letting excepted. Docs not the phyn
cian depend more on this indication than ail
his pharmacopeal preparations besides ; Does
he not confider all others as the mere modui ms
dendi of fanciful and, fomenmes, vtfionary
theories ; which may or may not answer the
dffired objefts ? Does he not know, that unlels
he is really a mailer of the feicnee, and keeps
this objeft in view, he may (innocently, no
doubt) kill more than he may chance fa cure
He certainly does; and every honest one wih
confefs if. As to the opinions of diflioneft and
ignorant empericks, they may be believed by
thole who are fond of long fi’» of licknefs
long bills—ruined conflitutioßs, or premature
dea'h.
Purging is found to be the mod effe&uzl
method of relieving over oiflended vellels or
inteflinal congestions, of any in nfe. The
choice of thele is often misjudged, from tradi
tional prejudices, habitual customs, or a fear
of doing wrong. But certain and effeftual
purgations can never do harm —the use of them
often prevents the necessity of calling in the at
tending physician—and if called upon, his
work is more than half done.
There is no preparation now extant, to an
swer as a general purgative for all ages and sex
es, and for fafety, convenience and ease, as the
“ Patent New London Billious Pills.” Seven
vears’ general and increaling use of them, by
phylicians of refpeftability and integrity—by
families who have found great expences laved
thereby—by their introduction into the Navy
of the United States, as well among seamen
general!* ; in short, as the only medicine
which will admit of universal fuccets in all
hands : are the belt evidences of their real vir
tues, and promise to secure to mankind a reme
