The Fight S«*n From Manila. For more than an hour and a hall ttu* bombardment belt! Ip suepeuae thoac wbou.' souls followed the unequal struggle in which the Spanish ships vreat down with their baugei* Hying. Whht wus going on In the waters of Civile? From Idanlla we saw through glares, the two squadrons almost min gled together to the clouds of smote. This was uot far from a triumph-for our side, comrttt.Tirtg the weakness of out butteries. For, ones alongside the enemy, the cry, of “Boarders A waft*" sad the flash of' cold staol might have enobied onr devoted seamen to disturb the ealm In which watches and Instru ment* tveiv* regulating and directing these engines of destruction. In the blind doss of our rage how should we paint the heroic deeds, the prowess, tbo waves of valor which burst forth from our men-of-war? Those who fought beueoth the Spanish flag bore Ilfemselvcß like men, as chosen sona of our native laud who never measure forces, nor yield to superior forces in the hands of an enemy: who would rather die without ships than live tn ships which have surrendered. To name those who distinguished themselves in battle would require the publication of the entire muster roll of our ships, from captain to cabin boy. To tli. ok victorious seamen of ours we •offer congratulations: laurels for the Uvics; prayers for the dead; for all, our deepest gratitude. Slncj we cannot reconstruct, the bloody scene which was .exhibited last Sunday In the waters of Cavite, we will not attempt a description, which would (jjtfy.b# a pale shadow of great deeds deserving a perpetual plate In the of history.
