Remember the Haire.
“Remember the Maine!” is an exc.?llent
cry
For thore- wlio are talking of war;
As good as tbe watchwords the patriots
used
In days that have now gone before.
Inspiriting always are cries like this,
And they hslp many on to t.ie right,
And thousands nerved up by a slogan,
that's brave
Plunge gallantly into the fight.
But ladies wbo've bank accounts—-for
tunate folk —
Take care, lest your balance you
cramp;
And when you are drawing your checks
don't forget
But always "remember the Stamp!”

CO AI ING STATIONS.
They arc to Be Established lor the
Navy.
Washington. July 25. The war has
brought forcibly to the attcn.ioa of
the naval authorities the lark cf eoal-j
Ing stations ca tba Atlantic and Pa- j
eifle coasts, and llktwise the necessity;
for establishing such stations st con- j
venlenl points. Commander Royal ll.'
Bradford, the chief of the bureau of
equipment, who has eharge of the pur
chase and shipment of roal .supplies
for the navy, has given a base for ac
tion o nthe matter bp recommending
that coaling stations be established all
along the Atlantic coast. Secretary
i I zing acted promptly on the recom
’ mrniliition bp appointing a hoard of
I officers, with Rear Admiral Belknap as
' president, to examine and report on
sites from Rost port. M#.. to Port Royal.
!S. C. It has already been determined
; net to establish any coaling station
I south of Port Royal, as the naval base
jat Dry Torlugas Is considered to lie
sufficient to supply the needs of the
Gulf and South Atlantic coasts.
Opposition to making Port Royal a
big navy yard has developed nmong
naval officers, Cvll Engineer Kn licott,
chief cf the bureau of yards, having
made a specific recommendation ad
verse to giving It greater importance.
The main objections are that Port
Royal Is remote from sources of supply,
and that expert labor cannot be ob
tained there. An npnropriai ion of
$400,000 for the improvement of the
Port Royal station Ib available, but
Chief Endieott opposes ho expenditure
of any more money there, except that
necessary to keep the place in good
cendilion. The objections made against
Port R :al have also been urged
against the Peg : Sound naval station.
