The agitation In behalf of a new
union depot ha* aroused the interest of
the entire community. The worn-out
strurtilf which has been doing duty In
that rapacity for so many year* has
seen Its beet days. Augusta, In every
sense ot tbe word, has progressed bt
yoad It. We wa*t a new depot io
keep pace with the march of events,
and we want It right away.
The railroad commission has been
called upon to require the erection of a
new depot here. It would be mo.-e
graceful however, for the Louisville
and Nashville to go ahead and build 11
without watting for any form of coer
cion.
The plan by which the prosperous
lessees of the Georgia railroad can do
this work, charging off the cost against
the annual rental, Is plain enough. The
road should avail Itself of the plau and
give to the traveling public the accom
odations which have been so long and
so greatly needed.
The Macon Telegraph’s funny man
refers to the Fifth Estate. Burke
said something about the journalistic
Fourth Estate being greater than all
the other three. Bui "the Fifth Estate"
is one on us.
