DIED ON THE TRAIN. An Illinois Aoldler V> a* on Hit Way , Home. Savannah, (la., Aug. 2( Florida | Central and Peninsular train No. 3d, which arrived from Florida at one I o'clock yesterday morning, forty min ute* late, brought In one dead aoldlef. who died on the train between Everett and Savannah, and several others wh t were 111 and are on their way North. Mrs. W. W. Gordon, who waa on the train In charge of the aoldter. tele graphed from Everett to have a room prepared here for him. The room waa not needed, however, as the man died soon afterward*. Hi* body was turn ed over to Undertaker Dixon on the ar rival of the train here and was taken to the residence of Mrs. Gordon, where It was prepared for shipment. The soldier was an llilnolsian and liia body wbi sent to his former home yesterday. Mrs. Gordon was devoted in her atten tion to th» dying soldier and gave him every attention that could be rendered. A number of Savannah people were expecting to leave on the train for Asheville, but owing to the fact that the Asheville train was partly occupied by stek soldiers some of them declined to go. Waycross, Ga., Aug. 22.—The wife of Obadiah Barber, who resides at High Point on the Okenflnokee swamp, is dying of cancer. Mr' Otarber says she Is at death’s door £nd that physic ians ran do nothing to save her. For six or eight months Mrs. Barber has been a sufferer and three or four physicians have attended her in the past. Mrs. Barber is 49 years old and her hus band is 75.
