Storekeeper John W. Jewett at Pep
per's distillery the other day. Colonel
Pepper had placed barrels of Ice water
near th" road for the soldiers. When
the private asked Jewett for a drink
he pointed to tiif lee water. When the
soldier found tbe barrel contained wa
ter he fired at the storekeeper, harely
missing Ills head. The soldier escaped.

water, even to bathe In.

Loganvllle, f!a., Aug. 27. While
supervising the pickling of some fruit
yesterday evening, Mies Roe Smith
was dangerously burned by having
some boiling vinegar fall upon her.
Her face, arms, breast and legs are
badly scalded, and while the physician
attending heir does not think the burns
will prove fatal, be says they «ertain

settled today by Flora Clark, colored.
