Spanish officer, and tn hla valiac which
had not yet arrived, said that he had
a white and glistening Spanish skull.
Spivey says that on the Saturday
preceding the ever memorable Sunday
morning. Admiral Sampson and Gen

determined to take two of the heaviest
battleships and make some kind of a
demonstration early the following
Monday morning.
Cervera's dash on Sunday morning
rendered this pUn void aad history
was changed.
In speaking of Evana ("Fighting
Bob"! Spivey mentioned another In
stance In which great and momentous
events were changed.
It will be remembered that an Aus
trian cruiser was seen oB Santiago af
ter the battle, ond Captain Evans gave
orders to clear for action, hut the Aus
trian ship, for some reason or other,
turned and disappeared at sea.
Spivey had on one of the hat bands

Spivey commented on its good quality.

Spivey’s term of enlistment was up
