George Snowden of the Ma con Guard*, have resigned their com mission*, and will return to their busi ness. It is not yet known who wilt be ap pointed to fill the vacancioa, but It i* whispered that Mr. Charlie Carnes, who was Capt. Hunter'* predecessor in command of the Macon volunteers, will be appointed to fill one of the vacan cies. Halt, un old man, wu« assaulted by foot pads near the rosoivoir on Foun dry street, and waa terribly beaten up. He was driving along In his buggy <-n his way home, when he was attacked from behind. Itc was badly hurt about tha head, and it sosms that his assail ants used some blunt Instrument .la striking him. It Is thought that their purpose was r,obbery. Mr. Hart was laken to his liofr.e and a physician was called to dress his wounds. The po lice were notified of the assault, and began work on the case at once, but no clue has yet been found. The rob bers did not secure anything from Mr. Hart, as it seems that they were frigh tened off before they could complete their work.
