THE PAVING QUESTION.
It Is Exciting a Great Deal of Interest
at Macon.
Macon. Oa.. Aug. 30. Much inter
est ia displayed in the probable out
come of the meeting of the city coun
cil tonight, when tho paving question
will ttgaih come up. It 1s considered
above all things probable that the. pav
ing bids will be reopened and in view
of tire fact a very large amount of
money will be saved to the property
owners if tbe*« bidß are reopened, it Is
hard to see bow council can decline to
do so.
The fact ofthe matter is that asphalt
paving can bo done for $1.93 or lees,
and it is stated most positively by
those who are ir. k position to know
that the brick paving which is now
costing $2.08 cap be done for $1.75 If
the*bids are reopened.

at flncon.
Macon. Ga., Aug. 30. Mr. J. W.
Halt, un old man, wu« assaulted by
foot pads near the rosoivoir on Foun
dry street, and waa terribly beaten up.
He was driving along In his buggy <-n
his way home, when he was attacked
from behind. Itc was badly hurt about
tha head, and it sosms that his assail
ants used some blunt Instrument .la
striking him. It Is thought that their
purpose was r,obbery. Mr. Hart was
laken to his liofr.e and a physician was
called to dress his wounds. The po
lice were notified of the assault, and
began work on the case at once, but
no clue has yet been found. The rob
bers did not secure anything from Mr.
Hart, as it seems that they were frigh

their work.
