It Is a subject of universal regr.»t
itwnt the teachers and pupils of the
public schools of Augusts, that Miss
Cars Benson has resigned her position,
and will, for a year or two. rest quietly
ard try to regain something of her lost
strength.
Miss Benson has for many years been
assistant principal of the Fifth Ward
Grammar School, and has, by her un
tiring efforts and gentle, lovable dispo
sition, together with her marked talent
for imparting knowledge, greatly en
deared herself to all with wh'om she
came in contact.
Miss Benson has l*een one of the most
faithful and efficient Instructors In our
public school, and her 111 health Is In a
great measure due to the assiduity with
which she has applied herself to her
life’s chosen work. That her season of
rest may prove beneficial to her. and
completely restore her to her lost
health, Is the earnest wish of her
countless fi lends and well-wisher*.
Floral Agency.
Mrs. A. M. Boatwright has, at the
solicitation of several northern florists,
assumed the Augusta agency for their
flowers, and will tahe unlimited ordeis
for cut floweis of any variety, for so
cial entertainments or any occasion for
which they may be required.
The prices quoted by Mrs. Boat
wright are very satisfactory, and she
guarantees the flowers to be as she re
presents them. It will tie very grati
fying to Mrs. Boatwright's numerous
patrons to learn that she will still carry
on her modiste establishment, but, ow
ing to the Increased popularity of the
tailor-made gowns, will confine her
work exclusively to suits of this style.

lker's finger. There was not mueh of a
I difficulty, so Williams was dismissed.
Hammond got $3.50 and Baker $3.50.
John Shannon, although generally a
peaceable ntgro, raised coin yesterdny.
He beat an old man. threw roeks at
the officer and then outran a deer. H •
had to pay $7.50 for his fun.

because she asked Ella not to allow her
son to put trash in her yard. Ella pays
$5 or gerve 10 days on the city works.

busy today cleaning up the opeta
house/ preparatory to opening of the
theatrical season next week. Much
scrubbing, dusting and sweeping is go

C & W. C. Train heated When Left
Here Yesterday.
This is rather early Tn the season
for fires to be built in the stoves on
railway coaches, but notwithstanding,
it is only the fiist part of September,
the cars of the Charleston end Westarn
Carolina train that left here yesterday
morning were heated.
