Miss Benson has for many years been assistant principal of the Fifth Ward Grammar School, and has, by her un tiring efforts and gentle, lovable dispo sition, together with her marked talent for imparting knowledge, greatly en deared herself to all with wh'om she came in contact. Miss Benson has l*een one of the most faithful and efficient Instructors In our public school, and her 111 health Is In a great measure due to the assiduity with which she has applied herself to her life’s chosen work. Boatwright has, at the solicitation of several northern florists, assumed the Augusta agency for their flowers, and will tahe unlimited ordeis for cut floweis of any variety, for so cial entertainments or any occasion for which they may be required. Th * evidence showed that the main trouble was between Hammmond and Baker. Baker started the fuss ami Hammond I Joined in and preceded to chew up Bi lker's finger. There was not mueh of a I difficulty, so Williams was dismissed. Hammond got $3.50 and Baker $3.50. John Shannon, although generally a peaceable ntgro, raised coin yesterdny. Manager Cohen has a fotet of hands busy today cleaning up the opeta house/ preparatory to opening of the theatrical season next week. Much scrubbing, dusting and sweeping is go ing oa. FIRES IN COACHES. C & W. C. Train heated When Left Here Yesterday. This is rather early Tn the season for fires to be built in the stoves on railway coaches, but notwithstanding, it is only the fiist part of September, the cars of the Charleston end Westarn Carolina train that left here yesterday morning were heated.
