TH* DAILY FAFAR BAHT
The "dally paper habit." u someone
ha* whimsically put It. grew upon the
American people during the recant
war so that they will never be able to I
break tbemselvaa of It Thera was j
never such n circulation of dally pn
(iera In ihe hiatory of the world aa 1
thete waa during the hostilities. Read
ers are no longer on the qut rive to
knohr the latest conflict and casual
lira, but they have tieeome so arcus- i
turned to th# dally paper Gnd to I
much that la new and Intereating In I
the rapid event* of their progreatlve ,
country that they wonder how In the ]
world they ever got along without the 1
dally paper.
Thl* I* particularly true of the oet
of-tuwn subscriber. The American
farmer la too progressive to be satis
fied with anything lees frequent than
a dally Issue. The market report*
alone will Justify uny farmer In the
expense of a dally, one day's quota
tions, perhaps, enabling him to take
advantage of the markets to make
enough profit to subscribe to a half
dozen for the year. The dally paper
ha* become an essential educator. It
i« more and more sought after by ev
er) member able to read. It* perusal
during the recent war has led both
parents and children to hunt up the
geographies and maps and encyclope
dias to practical advantage. It Is cer
tain that millions of people In the Uni
ted States know a great deal more
about the geography of the world, and
particularly the West Indies, (ho Phil
ippines, Ihe l-mlrone and the Caroline
Islands. Hawaii and Spain and the
I United States, and many facts relating
thereto, than they did three months
ago. And incidentally they acquired
much other valuable information front
their daily study of current events.
The daily paper tuts become an essen
tial featute of every home. The read
ing of it ts a good habit and cne which
will stick.
Another link with the past was bro
ken when the olil volunteer Are de
partment No. 1 disbanded on Tuesday
night in Columbia. They always leave
i fragrant memories.
The Populists and Democrats down
in Glascock are oping to divide tip the
offices in today’s nomination. They are
learning that the other fellow is not
such a bad sort of fellow after all.
