But the else •nd convenience# of the new building Indicate# that the Seaboard means bu siness. that It means, furthermore, to take rare of It. according to Improved methods. The new building rovers i something over two acres, will have a capacity of ahout 31.000 Iwles of cotton. With then# enormous facilities the Seg board will lie pretraced to better handle through shipments to ship-side, and from a standpoint of economy and de spatch they are placed on a still firmer footing, Fnunual facilities In this re s|u*rt w ill be required, however, and on the front, deep water facilities are af forded for docking the largest foreign steamships, while the ships on either side can accommodate steamers of equal draught and tonnage. When It la remembered that these ocean tramps carry comfortably from nine to twelve thousand bales of cotton at a sailing, some Idea Is given as to what these new facilities will mean for the Sea board Air 1,1 ne during Its busy season. On the North side of the ship facilities are also given for the accommodation of coastwise shipments. Two of the Seaboard’s warehouses have heretofore been devoted almost exclusively to the coastwise buxines*, and. with additional docks, room ob tained by the eomplellon of the tracks In the new slip, convenient accommoda tion* are |o he had for the docking at one time of vessels amounting In the aggregate lo an almost Incredible ton nage. The new structure will be known ns warehouse ”o,’’ and It will be re membered it was from this dock, then only recently purchased by the Sea board system, that a British tramp was loaded with several thousand bales of cotton from Georgia, sailed the same day of Its arrival over the geaboard Air Bine, and making a phenomenal record to Bremen, 20-year filled gold watches In ladles’ and gents’ sixes with I‘tlgln or Wal tham movement from 37 011 to $12.50. The fartg con cern hue an Incident occurring a few days before the Kmpresa of Austria left Vienna on her last Journey has Juat reached tatndon. Seveial Amer ican friend* of the empress' reader, applied for permission to go through the castle at Lain*, which Is the only emperor's residence closed to the pub lic. Not only was the permission obtain ed by Barker from the emprej-a. hut the Americans were allowed to take camera*. When, however, they passed out of the castle gstes, they found themselves confronted by detective*, who took possession of the cameras, and placed their owner* under srrest. There wns no vehlale and the Ameri cans were marched to the jail In Vi enna. a two hours' tramp. The en raged prisoners Immediately In a com munication to Barker declared that they were simply starving The mes sage added: “W* have had enough of your con founded Austrian castles and want to get back (o free and Independent America." Barker showed the message to the empress while she was sitting in the grounds of Isohl villa. The empress laughed so heartily (hat the emperor put Uls head out of the window and asked what was the matter. He was informed of the circumstances and a few minutes later the wires were con veying the imperial messages inquir ing the reason of the arrest and order ing the release of the Americans. The new regu lations for the drawing rooms which will he In force next season are due to the queen’s annoyance at scandal# dliwovcred during this and last year. It was found that Impecunious women of,.rank were advertising for a Died until to bring out young women who were rich but not 4n society. The tortus Included a’presentation at court and the run of the Igvndon season. The idea that presentations should lie mild was a severe shock to her majes tjl. .'The presentation lists were scanned more closely than ever, but it was not discovered that any of the women thus presented had anything against their personal character that would disqualify them from being received by the sovereign. The number of presentations hns been reduced to two hundred, partly with a view of giving the court officials greater control of the list. In the new regulations It Is inten ded to restrict the practice of persons who have been presented attending fre quently the subsequent drawing rooms. Debutantes are to be iold that they are not expected to attend draw ing rooms oftener than once in three years.
