DOUBLY WORRIED.
Trouble* of a Would-Be Couple at
Naahvllle.
Nashville, Tenn.. Nov. 9.—A Twen
tieth district couple were placed In
rather an awkward position h few
days ago by Ignorance of the law.
They decided to marry and the bride
groom came to Nashville and secured
a license which he took back home
with him. He then sent for Justice
Murrey, who holds the office of Justice
of the peace In Sumner county, and
who lives Just across tha line from
the home of the bride that waa to
be.
The Justice assented and did per
form the ceremony, using the license
taken out In Davidson county a* his
authority. The couple after the cere
mony went on a bridal tour, visiting
several relatives In an adjoining
neighborhood. The Justice made put
his return and gave the license to jus
tice A. R. Matthews to bring back to
the county clerk. Justice Matthews
told Justice Murrey that he could not
legally marry a couple in Davidson
county, he being a Justice in Sumner
county, but Justice Murrey insisted
that he could and said he had mar
ried a number of couples In the same
way.
County Clerk Shelton refused to re
ceive the license with Justice Murrey's
return, and so Justice Matthews took
It back to the bridegroom, but It was
several days before he found him.
When the situation was finally ex
plained, the couple asked Judge Mat
thews to perform the ceremony over,
which he did.
