Some of the merchants have been running stores at Camp Haskell, and some of those eoncerns sold wine and other stuff which Intoxicated the sold iers. The officers are determined to break up the thing, and as a con sequence some of the stores have been closed, while others have u guard near them. The members of Company F, Fif teenth Pennsylvania Regiment, enjoyed a Christmas dinner at Y. M. C. A. rooms to-day. It was a remembrance from Mercer county, Pennsylvania. TWO OF THF.M. A Couple of Cases Tried at City Court. only two defendants appeared at judge Bve's tribunal to-day. Over one was a charge of larceny from the house, and over the other there cos the double charge of larceny from the house and cheating and swind ling. Case No 1 Jim Haines: sentenced to ten months. Ga., Dec. 29.—Captain R. |) Ballard, a popular conductor of tho Plant System, and Dr. H. B. Williams, lone of the most prominent citizens of Way-cross, each happened toeerlous ac cidents while out hunting yesterday afternoon. Captain Ballard's gun exploded, blow. ; Ing off the thumb and forefinger of hit*-' right hand and badly laccrathre his hand and wrist. Captain Ballard's many friends deeply sympathize with him. Dr. Williams was accidentally shot In the face by Mr. Jolm Cox, a mem ber of the limiting party. Some of the shot took effect In the doctor's eye. but it Is hoped the eye is not endan gered. The doctor left last night for Savannah to put himself in charge of an ocenlist. CUBANS WILL SUBMIT. The Patriotic Meeting Held an Import ant Meeting. Havana, Cuba, Dec. 30.—The Cu ban patriotic committee, consisting or 150 leading Cuban lawyers, doctors and business men, at a meeting, this morn ing, decided to yield without reserva tion, to the wishes of General Brooke and General Ludlow in the matter of postponing the six days’ celebrations, and has approved the manifesto to the Cuban population of Havana on the lines of General Ludlow’s reply on the subject of Uni proposed celebration, quoting some portions of it and p»r upbraaipg others. The Cuban citizens ot Havana and the Cuban soldiers out side of the city are intensely excited,,, but the patriotic committee apd mil jtary chiefs of the Cubans think they can quiet this feeling and prevent vio lent incidents.
