AUGUSTA, OCT. gJ
Miss Caraboo.
Last week Miss Caraboo reconnoitred
the out posts of our Market, md consid
erable apprehensions were entertained,
by some of our “ old standards” that she
intended to carry i\\n fortress by a coup
de-main, After a little manceuverlng,
however, she sheered oil", and entreoch
cd herself behind SlJ—at which price
we are enabled to quote Cotton this
week.
The names of the Emperor Alexander
of Russia, and Prince Gullitzin, are en
siled as rqembcrs of the Peace. Society,
established in Massachusetts. What
mockery! Quere-r-If the Emperor Alex
ander had a fair opportunity to take an
additional slice of Turkey, would he con
sult the peace society of Massachusetts ?

GENERAL JACKSON
AND THE KENTUCKY TROOPS.
The Lexington Reporter of the 3d inst.
contains a long letter from General Jack
son addressed to General Adair, relative
to that part of General Jackson’s oflfcial
account of the attack on Ncvv-Orleans,
in January, 1815, winch charged a body
of Kentucky militia with having in a das
tardly manner, left their station upon the
approach ofthfe enemy. This letter ap
pears to bean answer to a previous pub
lication of General Adair. We ext ract
the following from General Jackson’s;
communication, as a specimen of hi.v
style and temper: “You ask, through
the Reporter, an explanation of my allu
sion to the “ Spanish dish.” It will n |
be given; my letter speaks for itself.
It is plain, without inuendo. You are
charged by the historian with having
furnished the forgery commented on;
you can read it coolly, and draw your
own conclusions. This is my only ex
planation,/ am astonished at.your impu
dence, to talk of fighting battles over n
gain. You well know, sir, that your
misrepresentations and falsehoods, com
bined With those of your colleague, and
the editors of a newspaper, have been
disturbing the tranquility of* the public
mind, by endeavouring to cast a stigma
on the well earned fame of brave and me
ritorious officers; and seeking to con
vince the world, that men were heroes,
who before the enemy.”
