Donclson arrived on the evening of the fith, having been detained at Wash ington by serious indisposition. There despatches relate to the occupation of our frontier by yonr troops. They are now on their marrh—the foot by water to Corpus Christi, cn the west bank of the N'cuccs; tho Dragoons by lam! to San Antonio. Tho stepis taken that will decide Mexico in her policy. Foreign troo|ie will soon bo upon the soil she claims, Her choice must be a declaration of war; or, if she is wise, negotiation. She may ac quire money by the tatter—defeat and disgrace only by tie former. Ttsday a resolution was passed, re questing the President of the United Stales, in be half of the people of Texas, to send troops forthwith to our frontier. This resolution is a sanction on tire part of the people of Texas, of the movements noted above. Lord Aberdeen has avowed tq Dr. Asiibcl Smith that Ilcr Majesty’s Government will not interfere in the question, so he writes home. This removes one of the prospects of war; re if you get to loggerheads with John Bull, it must be about Oregon. We are entirely exposed to tlio attacks of Indians and Mexicans—not a soldier on guard, and but few fire arms. So rsllous have the people of Tex as become to danger, that they scarcely ever pre|«re to repel attack. On my way here I met a young man, with two young girls, in a buggy, without any protection whatever from attack, almost at tho very spot where young Hornsby had been killed two weeks previous by the indians. They were in high glee, laughing and talking merrily;—I could but think that an hour might consign them to death, or a worse fate! The Hope Howes reports only 40 hoars from Gal veston to the Balize. The papers are in mourn ing for the sad event The reports of the crops throughout the country arc highly favorable; Galveston and the other cities and towns continue healthy; emigrants are fast pressing into the country from the adjoining States of the Union; and the prospects of Texas, view them through what phaso you will, are prosperous and encouraging. “GLASGOW, JULY 2.—Our markets has for he Ix-t week assumed a much more healthy appear ance than it lias done for some time, and there, is i pra-pect of a continuance.” “HAVRE, JUNE 30.—Cation.—During the past keek onr market has not been distinguished by any tiat cegrec of activity, although in the early part, ring to the tenor of the advices to the 2d instant, nought by the New York liner Sl Nicholas, which ire confirmatory of the moderate shipments corn- forward to our port, some symptoms of spirit 'ere displayed, and speculators also began to make Keir appearance.” “The weekly IJverpool circular, dated the 27th .4. says: ‘Until to-day when the buying has been at, no new featnre has presented itself in the I'utum market throughout the week. Tho demand rtviously, without being so largo as before, has •cn steady. The devices from France are such, ‘ k' jw.to the reduction of stock in that country, as > lead to the conviction that the Swiss and other mkets, supplied generally from Havre, must now pc their stocks from England, and so increase the rpori demand from this pert, but this at present is ’!ya Strong probability.” Superior Court, June 'Verm, 1845.
