by a combination of circumstances, tho innocent is
made the victim of the gallows, and though such in
nocence may be afterwards clearly ascertained, there
is no power that can restore tho hapless victim to
his family—bring back tbeir happiness, or remove
the foal plague-spot which has boon stamped upon
liis posterity.

an Agent, by the Jackson Monument Committee of
tire District of Columbia, to receive contributions in
this section of the State, fa the purpose of erecting
Equestrian Statue to the memory of Andrew
Jackson.
We need not recount hid virtues, or his invalna-
!e services to our country—they are inscribed up-
the memory of all who have heard his name. let
us improve the present opportunity of exhibiting our
admiration of virtue and patriotism, by contributing
lo perpetuate his memory.

N. H. Darnell of San Augustine, for Lieutenant
Governor.
The death of Calvin F. Keith, a colporteur of the
American Tract Society, is noticed in the Texas
papers.
All was quiet on the frontiers, and in the interia
everything appeared to be going on smoothly and

of slavery, which has been so destructive of lur-
many in sotno assemblages, was directly avoided,
and they adjourned with the kindest and most broth

Cotton Markets.
The Domestic Cotton Markets are gradually re
covering from tho depression which was produced
by the last European news by tho Britannia; bush
ness is now brisk, though quotations arc still a little
below former rates.
Albany-, Dec. 10.
Colton is coming in slowly, and sales have been
light at onr quotations. The crop is now nearly
gathered. Some rain has fallen, and the prospect
favorable for more. The River is rising, and we
now anticipate a brisk trade. Money is plenty to
advance upon or purchase Cotton, and onr merchants
arc prepared with good stocks of goods.
