There lias been an interesting trial going on in
:V criminal court, for a day or two past. Some

Wadsworth: a fight ensued, and they were parted.
r,rMti then challenged Wadsworth—the challenge
accepted—weapons small swords—the first
Usd drawn to end the duet. Carson refused to
unless it was to death, allowing him tbo privil-
nlct of catching hold of his antagonist, throwing
liar down and while down, killing him. To this the
,-conds npon both sides objected, and Carson with
drew his challenge, giving formal notice that' he
v.-ould assassinate Wadsworth the first opportunity,
lie is represented as an ignorant, quarrelsome, bully.

d,ad. Wad-worth is a member of the bar, and a
Representative from Plaquemine in the Legislature;
Peccable, quiet, and unassuming in bis deportment
II* was voluntarily defended by Messrs. J. R. Ey-
ues. S. S. Prentiss and R. Hunt as the leaders
of the defence, assissited by four or five other mem
bers of the bar, of almost equal reputation with
those named. I heard the opening speech of Mr.
Hunt, and although delivered with too much eflort
at declamation, yet I cheerfully pronounce it one of
the ablest efforts I ever heard—it was full of clo-
quen'oand pathos, delivered in strong and irresteta-
hle terms—the necessity of self defence, under cer
tain circumstances. Mr. Hunt is about forty years
of njre. Wadsworth was acquitted, and the verdict
in perfect accordance with the almost unanimous
will of the community.
Flour sold yesterday at £5 50. Cotton at from
7 to 10 cents. Corn at 80 cents per bushel—com
is now bringing more than it has brought in this
market for ten years.

T HIS large and commodious establishment is
again open for the reception of COTTON and
MERCHANDIZE.
The subscriber takes this method of returning his
thanks to tlie l’ublic, for the very liberal patronage
heretofore received, and respectfully solicits a con
tinuance of tho same. He will Store Cotton at the
low price of Tuentp-See Cents per bale, for tlie sea
son, and will give his personal attention to tlie
Wbcighing ana Shipping or Sale of cotton Stored
with him, without any extra charge.
U* He is prepared to make Choral Ahvarces,
either in Merchandize or Cotton.
Bagging, Rope and Salt,
constantly on band, and for sate low.
Should any planters storing cotton with me, wish
to avail themselvoaof the Bay Market, I have made
arrangements with some of the First Class Steam
Boats, to take them with their cotton (where they
make from thirty to fifty hales or more,) free of
charge. In feet, I am always at home, ready and
waiting to render my services to all who may need
them, either personally or by order.

the notice published as it appc&rcd.ybr the first time,
in a public, paper. Here comes the notice to which
I have alluded:
JYOtice.
O N the 4th Saturday in January next, will be sold
at tlie Printing Office, of tho Albany Courier,
in Albany, the personal property belonging to the
estate of John Jones, late of Baker county, deceased,
as will also be rented the Courier Office, its press,
type, and building, until the 6th day of March next,
when tlie lease with Col. Woolbright expire*, wilh
the loss and gain of said office from the 10th day of
June last till day of sale. Terms made known ou
duv of sate.

Cautionary Notice.
fTMIE remainder of tho lease of the Courier Office
I perceive has been advertised for sale. The
sale, 1 think, is to take place the 29th of the present
month—tho lease ends the 7th March, ensuing, at
which time my interest in it expires. This state
ment is made for the pnrpoee of informing the public
that tlie sate of the raid lease has been advertised
without my consent, and that therefore thepurchar-
er nr purchasers, if any there should be, will be held
liable lor the satisfaction of my claim. The notice
of sale of the lease above mentioned was not publish
ed in eitheir ol tbo public Gazettes of .Albany, as hi
customary; but was written and posted on the door
at J. W. Gaylord's store in this puce, and, os I be
lieve at no other place. I now, formally, forbid the
