Tua«d»y Morning. April S3, 1807.
Scddisn I)kath.—Tbe Fort Valley Qatetto
contains the following account of the sudden
death of Mr. Solomon W. Davis, of Crawford
county:
Died at the residence of Uov. Q. C. Clark, last
evening at about 6 o'clock, Mr. Solomon \V.
Davis, of Crawford county, trom the effects of a
tali Iront his buggy, betweeu Fort Valley and
.iudgo Maddox's house. Mr. Davis loft Fort
Valley in the afternoon, between 4 and 5 o'clock,
and it is believed, for ho was alone, that Borne
part of Ids harness broke going down tho first
hill, and the mule winch ho was driving ran off
and threw him against a tree, fracturing his skull
and breaking his arm at his loft shoulder, nnd
his ^collar bone, producing a very bad wound.—
He nlterwards walked about hnlfa mile, and was
found by his Mends hiving by tho side of tho
road near Rev. G. C. Clarke’s residence,. in an
Insensible state. Mr. Davis’s death Is a great
loss to Ids family and the community at large.
New Kind of Fire Extinguisher.—A Are
recently broko out In the cellar, of a Parisian
druggist, which extinguished itself The flames
had spread to some bottles and carboys contain
ing various kinds of spirits and alcohol; these
bursting soon flooded the cellar with a blazing
liquid which emitted a smoke so suffocating that
the firemen were unable to enter. Suddenly a
loud explosion was heard, and the flames became
extinguished as if by enchautment Three bot
tles of sulphuric' ether, containing in all about
three quarts, had. burst, and the vapor mixing
with the atmospheric air had put an end to tho
combustion.
Senator Wilson.—The Richmond Dispatch
urges some Virginian to meet Senator Wilson
upon the stump, if lie goes through Virginia as
he proposes todo. It says: “ If the newly-made
voters hear nothing but Radical harangues, and
are left to infer, as they will be ready enough to
do, that these are unanswerable, bow can they
be expected to vote with tho whites ? It may be
an unpleasant task, but it is one that has to be
performed. If Mr. Wilson should decline to
“ divide time ’’ with our speakers, we must nev
ertheless see to it that tho negroes are cnlighten-
d ss to the unity of interest between them and
heir Into masters. We commend this subject to
he attention of the public."
Mad Dogs.—Chicago seems to be afflicted
vilh mad-dogs in largo numbers. The Post of tho
^7th says three were at large in the west dvision
Df the city, on the preceding day, and that no
less than four persons are known to have been
bitten by tho rabid animals. It suggests that if
pvery citizen will carry two or three loaded re
volvers, he will bo able to materially aid the au
thorities in suppressing the deadly nuisance of
non-muzzled dogs. The muzzle of a pistol,
broperly applied, will cause a dog to “stay” muz
zled.
Express Car Bohned.—A New York date
pf the 19th says: The express car of tho last
night’s express train, west, on the Erie Railroad,
kook fire near Chemung station, from sparks from
(the engine, and wns totally destroyed. Tho con
tents wero consigned to parties west in care of
the United States and Mechanics’ Union Express.
Loss, <80,000. The safe containing the money
VKs saved. The express messenger had a nar
row escape.
Material for the Canvass.— 1 The Nashville
Press and Times of tho 20th says:—Three hun
dred and lorty-cignt ooxra <jf nuiuiuimiuu, flu
ng three cars, and directed to Governor W. G.
Brownlow, arrived by the Louisville and Nash
ville Railroad yesterday. A quantity of arms
hre now awaiting transportation at Louisvillo.
They are for tho State militia now being organ
ized in this State.
Drunk and Mad.-—A Washington corres-
ondent says: “ The most painful fact which is
Impressed upon an observer of the two Houses
. tho extent to which drunkenness and blear-eyed
■ebauchery are visible in the faces of -the mem
bers. One-third of the members of both Houses
[ppear to be living wrecks of men whom alcohol
Jas substantially destroyed.”
Tennessee.—Etheridge, the conservative can-
lidate for Governor of Tennessee, opened the
anvass in Weakley county oh Friday. It is
nid to have created a good deal of constcrna-
fon among the Radicals who heard it. We in
line to tho opinion that he will give the Brown-
bwites more than they can nttend to.
[ North Carolina.—Col. Frank, commanding
: Wilmington, has given notice that lie has as-
|med command of tho pollee force of that city,
he marshal of the city will hereafter report to
|lonel Frank for orders. All removals and
ointments will hereafter be submitted to
fieral Sickles.
bmcAGO.— 1 The Typographical Union of Chi-
i publishes a card to the effect that the print-
J business in that city Is overdone, and advises
[journeymen printers to come there at present,
one hundred and fifty printers are now in that
■ out of employment, owing to the extremo
pression of trade.
Ik. Da via.—Attorney General Stansberry, is
to have recently remarked to the District
jtorney of Virginia, that Jeff. Davis must bo
[posed of during the coming term of the Cir-
|t Court of the United States, which meets at
phtnond on the first Monday in May.
The Selma Robbery.—The Montgomery
\veriiser of Friday says:—There were some
•tltog rumors on the streets yesterday, con
ning the bank robbery at Selma. The affair
eing investigated by high authority and we
lifer not to mention the street reports.
fiFE Murder in New York.—Gottfreid
bilel murdered his wife, Aun Wailel, in
nes street, New York, on the morning of the
111, by cutting tier throat with a razor. Wife
brder seems to be quite common in the States
prill. ( •
Another Death.—The death of J. L. Avant
lunounccd In the Fort Valley Oaiette. He
for many years an exemplary member of
M. E. Ohurih; also au old member of the
oeic laterally, affiliating with Macon Lodge.
Jorrible Murder.—A dispatch from Madi-
! Wisconsin, uaya a terrible murder near IV a-
own has just been discovered. A German
ped Schaeff was killed by his son, and Iho
By burned in a log heap.
fuE BankrPPT Law.—The Rcglslcrs under
Bankrupt law will first be appointed for
t w York City by Cldel Justice Chase, and will
Ibably be announced next week.
x-Governob Perry—Ex-Governor Perry,
~outk Carolina, lias published a letter recnm
nding the people of that State not to organize
pier the Military Heconstructlon bill.
execution.—The execution of Jack Jewett

The Endot tho World.
A LIVELY AND INTBUESTINO PROGRAMME FOR
THE NEXT EIGHT YEARS.
A now Canadian book of tho prophetic sensa
tion ordor, is thus sketched by tho Dotroit Post :
“ Coming wonders expected between 1807 and
1875,” are foarful to contemplate, If tho predic
tion theftof can bo at all relied upon. Tho data
of tho prophecy nre found, as they al ways are, In
the book of Daniel nnd the Revelations. In the
first place, Louis Napoleon is, it appears, the
" last head of tho Roman Empire." Among other
E roofs is’the fact that the term Louis in Latin is
iiulovlcus, nnd tho numbers corresponding to
tho letters ol that naino are L—50—u (v) 5—d
500—o v 5—1 1—c 100—u 5—s—OflO; that the
Greek dativo Napaleonti in an equally ingenious
mnnner, gives 006, nnd tlmt Louis Napoleon
Bonaparte, In Hotrow, also makes 000. But
there Is also an identity between Napoleon and
tho Greek form Apoleon, and the Greek word
nat or truly; hence Napoleon is the “True Ap-
polvon.” Now 000 is the number of Wild Beast
in Revelation xlil, 8-7. Hence the present Em
peror of tho French is the last head of the Ro
man Empire, who is soon to ninko a soven years’
covenant with tho JewB. Then ho is to nbsorb
ten European kingdoms, being the ten-horned
beast ot the " prophecy." A great agitation In
tho Church militant will ariso, the Jowish tem
ple will bo restored, and the sanctuary cleansed
for Christ’s coming. These are the wonders of
the first year. In tho second year, there will bo
an increased activity of tho three frog-like de
mon spirila of infidelity, democratic despotism
(of which, perhaps, the Connecticut election is
the commencement), and Jesuitical propagan-
dism; Napoleon will make war upon Egypt nnd
conquer it; tho Turkish Empire will bo dissolv
ed, and the “lour horn kingdoms” ol Greece,
Egypt, Syria and Thrace be re-established. The
third year opens with the resurrection of all tho
deceased saints who, with 144,000 watchful
Christians, are to bo caught up together in
to Heaven. This will bo followed by arf un
paralleled religious revival, and in successive
years, bail ami lire, mingled with blood, are
to scorch a third of the earth. Michael and
Satan are to renew their war, the Christians
nre to flee to a wilderness and be miraculously
supported foTthree years nnd a half, then eight
months of universal war, a third of the sen to
become blood, a third of tho rivers, and even
lake tunnels, like that of Chicago, cannot save
the numerous victims of this impure water, &
third of thesun, moon nnd stars arc to be eclipsed,
(nothing, it will he observed, is to be done by
halves.) Napoleon is to unite under himself the
ten kingdoms of Great Britain, France, Spain,
Italy, Algeria, Tripoli, Egypt, Greece, Syria, and
Turkey. Napoleon will capturo Jerusalem, com
mence a general persecution of Christians, con
fiscate the Romanish church property, institute
public worship of his imago, imprint his name
on people’s foreheads and hands, then famine for
eighteen months, a great smoke for three weeks,
five months of locusts, horsemen and horses
breathing brimstone (which, let us hope, will ex
terminate the rheumatism and a popular com
plaint of Scotland) with various sores and foun
tains ot blood, and the battlo of Armageddon,
and earthquakes, and a variety of other agreea
ble experiences which will keep men in an ex
ceedingly lively and disturbed condition for
seven years. This nonsense is propped up by
quotations from fifty or more other writers ns
crazy as the Rev. Mr. Baxter, the author of this
work. He' urges an immediate discussion on
this subject, ns, “by these unparalleled trou
bles and calamities, the present opportunity ot
freely traversing tho countries and preaching tho
gospel, and announcing tho coming of Christ,
will, ere long, to n great extent, bo taken from
Crime In Now York.
Tho great commercial mart of the nation is a
nice place for a man to start to heaven from.
The following is from the World of the 18tli:
•Crime uns assumed some peculiar phases in
the city ol late, whicli would indicate that nei
ther the hours of flayllglit nor the publicity of
the location afford any protection against vio
lence, abduction, and murder. Three or four
cases ol great aggravation have occurred within
a very short period.that arc calculated to create
no little alarm. The first of these was that of a
S osa felonious assault committed upon a woman
a hotel in Cortlandt street, where it might be
supposed that protection was insured by the pre
sence of numerous boarders and attaches. Btill
more recently an attempt to murder a school
teacher in the grammar Bchool In Ninth street
was mode In open day. A German grocer was
murdered in Iiib own store in Broomo street, two
or three nights ago, by some parties who entered

from the street and fell upon him whllo reading
a newspaper. A shocking murder was commit
ted in James street early in the moruiug of Tues
day, the victim being the wile of the murderer.
There were plenty of peoplo about at the time,
and two or three policemen were soon on the
spot, but failed to arrest the fbgitlve. Thero is a
dismal history connected with this house. It is
the same in which Ferris, who expatiated his
crime on the gallows, murdered his wife, and in
whicli a man was murdered some years ago by
being thrown from an upper window. Added to
this category ot crime we have the abduction of
n young girl in University place a few mornings
ago, which, now that she lias been recovered,
although not assuming the suspicious shape it
did at first, shows pretty clearly that such things
can be done with impunity in our most crowded
thoroughfares.
Murder in Baker County.—A correspon
dent, living near Newton, sends the Albany
News an account of a murder committed in that
vicinity, on the 13th:
Mu. Editor:—This afternoon, halt an hour
by sun, a brutal murder was perpetrated in the
public road in front of Mr. Dowses’, two miles
from here, by a negro man named Noble, upon
the person of a negro woman, shooting her
through the brcasL It appears from statements
on the part of the negroes here, (where the girl
lived) that he had been refbsed by her, and was
to be married the ensuing week to another ne
gro living on the same Diace, (Mrs. Hall’s.) It
appears that she was returning from Newton,
where she had been, with others, to make some
purchases, it is supposed, tor her wedding suit,
when he npproachea with gun in hand, nnd be-
iug asked by her what he was going to do with
it,said, “shoot some game,” and raising the
piece, despite her entreaties to spare her life,

The opponents of the Republican party are de
