Arching brows, and azure eyes, ^
Arc what mauy lovers prize:—
Ne’er to me can Beauty sbiue, i
But in orbs that cradle mine!
Cherry lips, that slightly part,
Often steal away the heart:—
If they for auotber smile,
Far from me their dangerous wile!
Cheeks that blush with rosy hue,
Lovers seldom will eschew :—
Let me fly the poison’d bliss,
If they bear auolber’s kiss!

THE MINSTREL’S MALEDICTION.
By the rbse upoa thy cheek,
By the suow upou thy brow,
By thy woman’s boart so weak,
By thy false, forgotten vow!
By thy smile for festal hours
Lighted up aud then laid byi
By Direction's withered flowers
That around thy pathway lie!
By tho wavoaiid by tbe shore,
Whore that sunset hour Was passed,
By tho smile that then thou wore,
The brightest aud the last!
By tho promise at the shriue,
Which thy falsehood bath broken,
By memory’s lights that shine
O’er mauy a slighted token—
I hid thy heart iu future he
Like the desert's flow-ericas tree,
With poue to love and nono to bless,
Cold in utter loucliuess.
Smiling brow s shall pass thee by,
But they shall not pause to guess
YVhjr that hollow cheek aud eye,
Whence that look of wretchedness.
Unloving and uulighted
Henceforth shall bo thy way,
Like the hopes which thou hast blighted,
Shalt thine own dreams decay!
There aro jewels on thy brow
Aud jewels on tby hand,
And thou seest tliuusands bow,
Like a queen iu fairy-laud;
But thine hour is passing o’er,
And worshippers will fly,
And uu a desert shore
Thou wilt soou forsaken sigh.
For tlie falso aud hollow-heartod
There is uo enduring rcigu,
One summer-sigh when parted,
They’re remembered not again. _
Soon thy bosom will awaken
From out its fever-drenui,
Thou wilt mourn o’er the forsaken,
YVithout one cheering beam
To light the louely future,
Or gild tho gloomy past—
Thuu hast touched the harp too rudely
Aud its rnusio may not lust.
The silver-stars aro waning
lu yandcr sky of blue,
Tho forest-leaves aro bending
To meet the morning-dew.
Tho moojt-light on the water '
Sleeps, like a spirit blest.
But the storm witbia tby bosom
It may not soothe to rest.
Tho spirit I have summoned,
Aud tbo spell that 1 have said,
Shall linger round thy pathway
Till thuu steepest with tho dead.

Stock Feeding in Ohio.—A correspondent of
tho Scioto (Ohio) Gazette, has seut to the editor
of that paper some facts relative to the business
of ‘‘Stock feeding,” which is extensively carried
on iu tho Bcioto Vtllley. Front these it appears
that the first stock or store cuttle were driven into
the Eustcrn market iu the your 1801, and the
trado continued successfully for three years. It
Was soou found that there was no market at
home for the surplus grain raised lit Ohio, nud
tho distauce too great to scud it to tho Eastward
for sale; in consequence of which u citizen of
Cliilicotho determined to try tho experiment of
fattening cattle at homo. .Sixty bond were fed iu
the year 1804, aud the owner drove them to Bal
timore, the nearest market, and to his great ns-
touislimout the project proved prefituMe. Tho
succeeding year froni two to three hundred were
driven to the same market. In 1808 adrovowas
sent to Philadelphia, and subsequently others to
Ncw-York aud Boston; nud tho number now
exported from the valley ulous amounts to tuu
thousand head per auuum.
Tho cattle, iiowever, arc uot all raised in Ohio;
more than half of them are collected from difiur-
cat parts of tho Western Stales, tho difficulty nud
labour ol which aro exemplified iu the l'ulluiviug
paragraph fi-om the letter referred to:—“ Our
cattle dealers think nothing of mounting their
horses aud riding two, three, four, five; six aud
seveu hundred miles iu search of stock, and when
they procure and collect a drove, follow them for
mouths through thu wilderness, carrying their pro
visions on pack horses, and cncampiug iu tho
woods and prairies until they reach hero, thou
f roze or feed them, ami proceed with them to on

here and fed, aud then sent on foot to the Phila

from thence shipped to tiio Wosl Iudies—tho cu-
tiro operation of which consuming something like

pervade'tho minds of every class of society, at tho

yk-rubly heightened by tho following circums:auco,
which lately occurred at a newspaper office in

cholera morbus 1” From its extreme length, it
was divided into six parts, and given to as many
compositors to “set up." Just afterwards a
timid gentleman, who hud been for many weeks
past adopting every precaution to prevent au at
tack of ibis fatal complmut seizing him, came into
tho office to ebat away half mi hour with tho
“Reader.” lie had uot been there five minutes
before tbo “reading buy” entered iu great liuato,
aud inquired “Who’s got the cholera morbus I”
“ 1 have”-—“ I have”—•“ I’ve got it,” loudly re
sponded the aforesaid hulf-a-duzcu compositors.
“Tho d—1 you have!” shrieked out the timid
gentlemen in question, more dead thuu alive with
