Italy.
Anew question, it appears, has been
brought before tho Conference at Paris.
Turkey has been “done for,” and the
point now is, “ what can one do for j
Itafc ? ” In answer to this reported ex
«laj§.-ition of the French Emperor, Count
C*«mr, the Sardinian plenipotentiary,
Wan troduced a memorial, which states !
thaithe principal grievances of Italy are :
thepespotismof Austria and the privileges
of tiie priesthood. Portions of Italy,
Sardinia and Piedmont, have already
freed themselves from these blighting
curses, and the remaining portions have
ardently wished to do the same. Aus
tristnles a portion of Italy by military
law, and the people unaided have no
chance of success. Oppression drives
them to revolt, which being unsuccessful,,
is followed bv oppression vet more grind
ing. In the Papal States, the comli- J
tion of the people is, if possible, oven
wotse. The government not only op
prcßes, but is unable to protect. It has
itself to be protected by the bayonets of
a foreign power. The memorial propos
■es that, as the people are bitterly oppos
ed to the papal sway, they should at
once ho released from it, and dissevered
from the State of the Church. The
territory so constructed should be placed
under the government of a hereditary
house. Austrian occupation should bo
prohibited, the Code Napoleon introduc
ed, and the administration of the Clergy
entirely abolished. —Atlanta Intelligen.

Premature Burial.
Not long ago, a dead body was taken
from the water at Alexandria, Virginia.
Having been recognised and claimed
-by the wife of a citizen as the corpse
her husband, it was duly borne to the
grave, with due solemnity, followed l>y
the widow and children in all the habil
iments of woe. Several days passed,
when the husband and father whoso fu
neral had lately been celebrated, sudden
ly returned, in the full enjoyment of
perfect health. The surprise with which
he was greeted, and his own at learning
what had occurred, rnay be imagined.—
The»equel of this strange story did not
terminate so happily. The sexton, it
seems, had run up a large bill for funeral
expenses, which the city authorities re
ffused to allow, and the consequence was
■that the man actually had to pay for his
■own burial.
Pretty Good.
A letter from one of the Georgia Kan
sas boys shows that an interesting species
.of traffic is prevailing between the North
ern and Southern emigrants. Many of
■those sent out by the New Englanders
are selling the Sharp’s rifles, that cost
th*Beechers and Sillimans $25 each,
to tß# Southern boys for sl2 to sls.
Nonse of buying rifles at the South if
the Southern emigrants can find Sharp’s
patents so conveniently at hand in Kan-
Jfcdams’ California express, which
JjjSfted New York on Wednesday, per
‘4MB)ship Illinois, brought among other
freight, forty-threo cases of silk goods
from Canton, via San Francisco and the
Jfttnus of Panama, being the first im
paitation of China goods that ever ar
rived at New York by express across the
litbmus.

The Difficulties with England.
The Washington correspondent of
the New York Herald says :
I learn that there is a probable solu
tion to our Central American difficulties
with England. You of course, know
that the troubles with England are three
fold—first, tho enlistment; second, the
Mosquito ; and third, the Bay of Islands
question—the two latter growing out
of tho Clayton-Bulwer treaty.
The Mosquito question, it is expected
will be settled without much difficulty!
Indeed, General Walker is settling that
as rapidly as it can be settled. The
Bay of Islands question is more difficult;
but I understand that Honduras has tak
en the initiative, and has appointed Vic
tor Herran, who is now the Minister of
that republic in Paris, special Envoy to
London ; and that it has also appointed
Leon Alvarado Minister to Washington,
to succeed Bammdia, who died here
some time ago
These two ministers, I am informed,
have received instructions to make a
proposition to the American and Eng
lish governments by which the Bay of
Islands shall be ceded back to Honduras.
The proposition is so fair that it seems
impossible for either government to re
fuse their consent to it. This would re
move tbo difficulty. The year 1850
seems to be the year of general pacifica
tion.
Latest from Gen. Walker. —Tho
Nicaragua correspondent of the New
York Tribune writing from San Juan del
Norte, April 9, says:
The British have given notice of tho
bombardment of San Juan, and a fleet
is hourly expected to enforce the notice.
Walker remains at Granada sick with
fever. His troops are concentrated
there, and some desperate fighting muv
soon be expected. Sickness, as usual,
is prevalent in Granada, and over 400
American graves may now be counted
in the new grave yard.
The latest accounts brought the Costa
Ricans to the banks of the Sail Juan,
twelve miles above Castillo, where they
are encamped in large numbers to stop
river navigation An attack on Castillo,
the key of the river, is hourly expected.
Gen. Hornsby, with tile last recruits are
in defence.
The London Times and its Adver
tising.—The advertising columns of
tho London Times are estimated to yield
the establishment- the enormous sum of
$3,000,000 per annum. One firm alone
pays the Times as high as $150,000 a
year for advertising, and there are sev
eral business establishments that pay it
over $50,000 a year for advertising
alone.

KW" We were accosted a day or two
since by a familiar voice, and a gentleman we
did not remember to have seen before, stood in
our presence. A comic smile played around his
mouth, and his eyes told of mischief, and not
until an explanation did we discover an old ac
quaintance, who, the last time we saw him, was
as grey as a rat; but now, by the magic power
of Prof. Wood’s Hair restorative, his hair is as
black as a coal and soft as silk. —Louisville Times.

KiF” Neuralgia. —This formidable dis
ease, which seems to baffle the skill of physicians,
yields like magic to Carter’s Spanish Mixture.
Mr. F. Boyden, formerly of the Astor House,
New York, and late proprietor of the Exchange
Hotel, Richmond, Va., is one of the hundreds
who have been cured of severe Neuralgia, by
Carter’s Spanish Mixture.
Since his cure, he has recommended it to
numbers of others, who were suffering with
nearly every form of disease, with the most won
derful success.
He says it is the most extraordinary medicine
he has ever seen used, and the best blood puri
fier known.

iw Holloway's Pills, the most pow
erful Remedy for all disorders affecting the in
testines.—These Pills are pronounced without
hesitation, by all who have tried them, to be one
of the most efficacious remedies ever made
kuown, they act so directly upon the affected
parts that it is impossible any disease of the
stomach or bowels can resist their searching in
fluence, and so they thoroughly pass through
and cleanse the system, removing all traces of
disease. It is a remarkable fact, that these Pills
seldom fail to restore the patient to health, even
after every other remedy has been used unsuc
cessfully. «

THE Proprietors of this large and spleii-Z^i*.
did new Prick Building, which hasp!;!
just been fitted up m elegant style, with-MSIL
entire new Furniture, would respectfully inform
the Public that they have at length completed
and opened it for the accommodation of perma

They havo made every effort to arrange it in
such a manner as to render their guests com
fortable. And having had a long experience,
they do not intend to be excelled by any land
lord. *
The Furniture, as well as the house, is perfect

Those acquainted with the topography of
Georgia, know that within her limits exist some
of the most sublime and magnificent works of
Nature, and Stone Mountain justly ranks as one
of the number.
Southerners who vish to spend their summers
at the South, instead of going North, will find
the climate bracing, and the water pure as the
purest. The climate is not surpassed.
The Proprietors flatter themselves that those
who call once, will be well-enough satisfied to
call again.
