lately bestowed very considerable attention to
the subject of sheep and wool in ancient and
modem times, in various climates and on dif
ferent soils, has apprized us of his conviction
that the pine barrens (as they are called) of the
southern states will be found positively favoura
ble to 'he fine-worded breeds. He slates as
the result of a toler-tbie accu-ate estimate, that
in the year 18! L there will have been shedded
in this country thirteen mil/tong of. pounds of

Robbery.—On Thursday mornfeg las', 'he
mail stage, running Lorn this to Winchester,
was robbed of two trunks. It had not, we be
lieve. proceeded more than 3 quarter of a mile
before the straps were cut, and the trunks taken
off, as ?he trunks were fouod in a *own about
a quarter of a mile from where the stage start

trunks were no' missed until they h id nearly
got a mtie and an half from the town ; when
the felling off of another frank from behind
was heard—some person got but to examine

trunks gone. They were the property of two
