The powder-mill of Messrs. Dupont de
Nemours and Co. at their powder woiks'on
the Brandywine, has been blown up by some
villain who introduced into one of the mortars
an iron ball weighing about a pound and a hall.
The proprietors have offered a reward of 15C0
dollars for his detection.—A. T. paper.
Nashville, (Ten.) Oct. 15.
A report has reached town, by a gentleman
bom Shelbyvilie, that a courier front col. Jo
seph H. Daviess of Kentucky, to the governor,
states, that he has had a rencontre * with the
Indians on the Wabash. He commanded 800
mounted dragoons, and cn their approach, the
Indians, 150 strong, iired on hi;n and kilted 14
of iiis men. A charge was immediately made
on the Indians and victory ensued, <eav ng 200

The Legislature of this state met on Mon
day last. The senate, havingformed a quorum,
proceeded to business. The hon. Matthew Tal
bott, of Wilkes county, was chosen p esident,
