Hilton Head, we have received all details of
the making ot Peace throughout the Depart
ment of the South, which most welcome intel
ligence, we partly laid before our readers in our
regular morning edition. Our correspondent
ha* been fortunate enough to obtain fromllead
Quarters the full Official Reports of tbe sur
render, and all the stipulations therewith con
nected, which we append.

for the information and guidance of this com
mand :

Special Field Order, No. 05.
The General commanding announces a
further suspension of hosiili ties, and a final
agreement with Gen. Johnston, which
terminates the war, as to the armies udder
b» command, and tbe country east of the
Chattahoochee.
Copies of theterme of this Convention will
be furnished Major Generali Schofield, Gill
more and Wilson, who are specially charged
with the execution of. its details, in the De
partment of North Carolina, Department of
the South, and at Macon, and in Western
Georgia. Cant. Joseph Meyers, Ordnance
Department, U. S A., is hereby' designated
to receive the arms &c., at Greensboro, aud
any commanding officer of a post may re
ceive the arms of any ■ detachments and see
that they are properly stored and accounted
for.
General Schofield will procure at once the
necessary blanks and supply the other army
commanders, that uniformity may prevail.
Great care must be taken that all the Terms
and Stipulations on our part, be fulfilled
with the most scrupulous fidelity, while those
Imposed on our hitherto enemy be received
in a spirit becoming a brave aud generous
army.
Army Commanders may. at once loan to the
Inhabitants such of the captured mules, hors
es, wagons and vehicles as can be spared
from immediate use, and the Commanding
Generals ot armies may issue provisions, ani
mals, or_any public supplies that can be
spared to relieve present wants, and to en
courage the inhabitnats to resume their
t peaceful pursuits, and to restore relations of
’ friendship among our fellow-citizens and
countrymen. *
Foraging wiil forthwith cease, and when
necessity or long marches compel the tak
ing of forage, provisions, or any kind of pri
vate property, compensation will be made
on the spot, or, when the disbursing officers
are not provided with funds, vouchers will
be given in proper form, payable at the
nearest Military Depot.

Terms of a Military Convention held this
twenty-sixth (2Ctb) day of April, 1805, at
Beuuett’s House, near Durham's Station, N.
C, between General Joseph E. Johustou,
commanding the Confederate Army, and
Major General W. T. Sherman, command
ing the United States Army ui North Caroli
na.
All acts of war on the part of the troops
under General Johnston’s command to cease
from this date.
All arms aud public property to be deposit
ed at Greensboro’, to be delivered to an ord
nance officer of the United States Army.
Holla of all the Officers and Men to be
made in duplicate, oue copy to ba retaiued
by the Commander of the troops and the
to be given to an Officer to be desig
nated by Gen. Sherman.
Each Officer and Man to give bis individ
ual Obligation, in writing, not to take up
arms against tbe Government ot tbe U. S.
until properly released from this Obligation.
The Side Arms of Officers, aud their Pri
vate Horses aud Baggage to be retained by
them.
This being done, all the Officers and Men
will be permitted* to return to their homes,
not to be disturbed by the U. S. Authority
bo long as they observe their Obligation, and
tbe Laws in force where they may reside.

Arrival of General Suebman.— This
morning Major General Win. T. Sherman,
accompanied by Major Dayton, and two
others of his staff, arrived in our city by the
United States steamer Russia.
Major Generals Sherman and Gillmore,
with staffs, have been invited to visit the Sa
vannah Theatre this evening. Gen. Sherman
has accepted, and has promised to be there
“ sure."

Arrival of thb W. W. Coit. —The steam
er W. W. Coit arrived-this morning from
Hilton Head bringing Major-General Q. A.
Gillmore and Col. Woodlord,. Maj. Gray,
Capt. Merrill, Capt. Bragg, of his staff; also
Mrs. Bragg, Mrs. Col. Woodford, Mr. Miller
and Mr. S. W. Mason.
The Drought.—' Tlie gardens that supply
our city with vegetables, are now suffering
from the contiuued drought. Unless we are
soon blessed with showers the crops will be
entirely lost or materially injured. Irish
potatoes should now he for sale in tbe mar
kot, but tbo drought will delay a supply for
several weeks.
The Freedmec, on the coast, are also
heavy sufferers by the droughtp-tho seed that
has been planted by them sadly needs irriga
tion, and unless rain speedily falls all will
be lost.
Guerillas os Dawfuskib Island. —On
Wednesday last Capt. John A. Micbler, ac
companied by six of his party, visited
DawfusWe Island, in this county, and at the
old farm of Mr. John Stoddard murdered
Peter Dodge, a Freedman. This colored
man was well Known in Savannah, aud for
years was he a faithful servant of Mr.
Stoddard. He always bore & good
character for honesty. Peter had a large
family, and Mr. Stodpard recommended that
he take the old farm aud live on it, extend
ing every aid to him in making by honest
toil a support for his family and himself. The
Government, doubtless, will ere long reach
Michler und bis gang, and it will have meted
out to them the full measure of justice.
The U. S. Steamer Russia.— This morn
ing this fine clyde-built, iron-hulled steamer,
formerly the Marv Ann, arrived In our har
bor. The Russia was captured about two
years and a half since, on the coast of North
Carolina. Her dimensions are as follows:
Length over all, 207 feet; breadth of
beam, 18 feet; face of paddles, 8 feet G
inches; diameter, 18 feet; depth of hold,
9 1-2 feet; two inclined engines; diameter
of cylinders, 38 1-2 inches; length of stroke,
G 1-2 feet; two low-pressure tubular boilers,
leDgtb, 14feet; diameter, 11 feet.

I. The attention of Medical Officers, in charge of ft
S. A. General Hospitals in this Department, is called
to the absolute necessity of accurate records and ac
counts of Hospital furniture, cooking utensils, bed
ding, Ac., being kept by the Ward-masters, they
taking, once a week, "an inventory of the articles in
use, and and reporting to him (the Surgeon injeharge,)
any loss or dama e to them, and to return to the
Steward such as are not required for use." [Revised
Regulations of the Army, lStxs, Par. 1246.] *
The subjoined lorm. taken from Woodward’s Hoa
pitai Stewards’ Manual, will be used in General Hos
pitals where the wards are in detached buildings;

These regulatiot s must be a rictly enforced, and for
any delinquency found on future inspections, and re
ported to this Office, the Medical Officer in charge of
the General Hospitals bo reported, will be held respon
sible and reported for disobedience of orders.

Regiments or Detachments, prisoners of war, and
Quartermastera* employees, is called to the necessity
of immediate re-vaeoinatkn of all reernits, contra,
bands, and prisoners of war, and Quartermasters*
employees, as soon as they arrive at the Regimental
or other depots. There is always a supply of vaccina
crusts at the Furveying Depot of this Department, aud
all Medical Officers must always be amply provided
with them.
11. Medical Officers of this Department are again
reminded of the obligation of economy in the use of
•-tatiouery. Halt sheets of letter paper must Invaria
bly be used when the nature 01 the communicaUen
admits of it.

compliance from ail Medical Officers in this Depart
ment with the following instructions. (Circular No.
I, S. G. 0., 1806):
“In all cases, either in hospital or In the f eld, In
which death is supposed to result from the employ
ment of anaesthetic agents, a detailed report of the at
tendant circumst-nces will be transmitted by tbe
Medical Officer in immediate charge of the patient,
through the ordinary channels, to the burgeon Gener
al. Medical Officers in charge of Hospitals and smr
geons-in-Chief of Divisions, will endorse on the rtv
ports of their subordinates their opinion.- of the facts.
Together with tbe report, asample of the ame-thetic
agent employed will be forwarded icr analysis."

Office: aud alleged ignorance of such orders will no
hereafter be received as an excuse for neglect of dut
or disobedience of orders.
11. Constant complaints are made by Medical Offi
cers in receipt of Hospital and other Supplies from th* '
Medical Purveyor, of such being delivered to them by
the Quartermaster’s Department in a damaged coudl
tion, or tbe packages having been broken open and
articles, especially liquors, abstracted therefrom. It is
ordered hereafter that all Medical Officers in this De»
partmeut receiving Hospital aud Medical Supplies in a
damaged condition, or packages from which articles
have been abstracted, shall immediately on tbe receipt
of such notify the Qnartermaster from whom they re
ceive them of their condition, that he may make the
proper endorsement on the hill of lading of tbe steamer
transporting them, and Captains of transports may be
made liable for the damage or loaa that may eccac
through their negligence.

crusts on the Medical Purveyor of the Department.
