Arrival of the Sootia with Dates to July 16. The Scotia arrived at New York oa tbe morning of the 26th, with Queenstown dates of the 16th. TBE AILANTIO CABLE. The coils were all on board the Great Eastern on the 14th inst., and everything was iu the best condition to leave the Nora on the 15th torValeotia. The steamer Caroline, from London for Valentia, with the shore end of the cable, pat intoFalmouih on the 13th instant. TBE ENOUAB ELECTIONS—TBE LIBERALS AHEAD. Up to the evening of the 14th instant, the mimber of Parliamentary contests comple ted in England was 421. Os thebe the liber als had 263 teats; and the consetvaiives 153. Compared with the last Parliament, the lib erals, according to the calculations of the Times, have lost 26 and have gained 35 seats f so that the net gain to tbe government thus Ikr has been 9. Liberal gains are anticipa ted in Ireland, and on the whole the Times looks lor a great reinforcement to the liberal cause. The Morning Herald only admits a loss of four conservative seats, and urges that this loss is more apparent than real, as the un seated members were conservatives only in uame. There were still twd hundred and thirty three seats to be filled—mainly by the coun ties—and the contests for these would extend over another week. Lord Palmerston was of course, returned . for Tiverton, but he has % a conservative for ’ his colleague instead of a liberal, as for merly. Tne first two days’ voting for Oxford Uni vet sity leit Mr Gladstone in a miuority of twenty-five. The polling would continue for three more days. In the view of the possi ble failure of Mr. Gladstone at Oxford, the liberals had nominated him as oue of the candidates for the southern division of Lan cashire. The elections in some places bad been ac- , companied with rioting, but nothing of a serious nature had occurred, and on the whole they may be said to have so tar pusaed off satisfactorily. j may be said torily. THE CBOLEBA. 'Tbe number of deaths by cholera at Alex andria ou the ISth of July was tifty-five.— The epidemic had sensibly diminished at Cairo and iu tbe surrounding villages. General Prince Wittgenstein, who arrived in Paris a few days/ago from St. Petersburg, has, we understand, brought with him an autograph letter of the Emperor Alexander, expressing approval of the proposal. She brought only forty-two thousand dollars, and it is said her engines are worth over thirty thousand dollars."
