Tybec Road* as quarantine vessel, with a Snr
wn 6n board as quarantine officer. She takes the
* e of the naval boat Racer. Since the Utter left
(be station so suddenly, quarantine has been estab
iubedat Fort Pulaski, where a guu was mounted
to cover the channel for the purpose stopping all
reiiels not entitled to enter. The Electric Spark U
avers .appropriate craft for the duty. She carrtee

3i£A«» Sampson. —Last evening we were pleased
to notice on the deck of this steamer Capt. Samuel
l Dennette, late Deputy Harbormaster of the port
and district of Savannah.
The Sampson, captured from the Confederates, tvas
recently taken to the Government workshops at Port
Boval, where repairs necessary were made. A cabin
was built on the after deck and a railing extended
maud the sides of the boat. She has*also been re
painted.
We congratulate Capt. Dennette on having a snug
craft, that on yesterday made the trip between Sa
vannah and Hilton Head In three and a half hours.
The Sampson is lying at the dock foot of Whitaker
street, where Capt. Dennette will be pleased to see
his friends on board at all times. The Sampson was
built for a towboat, and U about seven years old.—

the courtesy of Capt. S. L. Dennett, of the steamer
Sampson, enabled to reach the city a few minutes
after six o’clock, the tide not serving for their
steamer to pass the obstructions In the river.
The steamship Zodiac, Capt. Buikley, of the Pio
neer Line, Hunter A Oammell Agents, made her
trip without detention.
Both of the ships bring heavy cargoes, and they
willl return with full cotton freights

Personal.— Capt. James E. Smith, 12th Conntc

Court of Savannah, was yesterday relieved from his
position as Provost-Marshal by Cap!. Samuel Cow
drey, of the 102d New York Volunteers. Judge Smith
returns to bis home, bis battalion baying been mus
tered out of serv Ice. During his term of office lu
dispensing Justice and vindicating the law, Captain
Smith, by his gentlemanly conduct and kindness to
all. and his courtesy to the attorneys In attendance
at his court, has won a host of friends, who wOl ever

office of the Daily Herald, has received by the
steadier which arrived last evening, the following

For New York—The steamship Constitution, Oapt
Greenman, of the Star Line of steamships, sailed for
S«w York last night about nine o'clock. The Con
stitution had on boafd a number Os passengers and

From Augusta—The U. S. Transport Gen. Shep
iev, Capt. Milligan, arrived from Augusta last even
ing, having quite a number of cabin passengers and
some two hundred contrabands who expect to locate
oa the coast.

master U. S. A.; Judge D. S. Walker and T. J. Per
kins, of TaUahassee, Florida, arrived In our city last
evening, and are at the Pulaski House.

Nicholas Wolfe vs. July Millet (colored), Judgment
for $ll.OO with costs of suit and recovery of premises,
it appearing frdm the record of the District Provost
Court that plaintiff recovered Judgment against the
defendant, on the Sth day of July, 1805, In the sum of
lorty-one dollars, with costs of suit to be paid within
the space of twenty-one days from that date, and it
lorther appearing that the defendant has failed to
comply with the above order, and lias also failed to
make His appMrance In obedience to a summons is
sued from thliefßce, It was ordered that the said de
fendant be arrested for contempt, and that he show
cause why he failed to appear. .
G. B. Lamar vs. Patrick Fogarty, recovery of rant,
$70.00. in the above case It was ordered that the
plaintiff recover against the defendant, Judgment
to the sum of $70.00, with costs of suit. It was
further that the amount of Judgment and costs be
paid by the defendant by the first day of September,
and that he vacate the premises by the same date.

the Brevet Major General Commanding, and It ap
pearing that the Brevet Major Generrl Commanding
has Investigated and decided upon the matter at Is

hereby annulled and made void .

In onr last report we noticed that the Dry Goods
market was steadily advancing, which was caused by
a rise In New York. Since Sat urday the market has
become very quiet and quotable. Sales of Amnskeair.
and Pacino Mills printed calicoes are reported at as
to 36 cenu per yard. Bleached cottons 46 to 6* eta.
per yard. Ginghams 40 cents. For all Imported goods
there Is but little inqnlrv.
We notice tlist in Provisions a heavy decline has
occurred In the prices of articles of a particularly
perishable nature. Potatoes are down ; the heavy
stock offering anil the sacrifices made, have prndne
ed a marked change In the past lew days.
Since Saturday, there have lieen heavy receipts of
cottons, principally of Uplands, in which a limited
business has been doing. All receipts are for ex
port.
Meats are again showing an upward tendency, the
stock ottering is entirely bv retailers.
A targe amount of corn is In the markeh and it has
been very active for the oast two days.
Financial.
Exchange.—There lieing very Utile business doing
In all descriptions of paper we make no quotations.
Specie.—A limited Inquiry prevails for either guld
or silver, and there Is but little offering. The baying
rates lor gold are 46 ¥ cent, premium, selling at 4;
to 48. Silver buying rate 36, selling at 40-uet cent
premium.
Stocks and Bonds. —Nothing doing, and no quo
tations.
Uncurrent Money.— a verv fair hnsiness was
done since Saturday, In all the old hank issues. The

urday. On Yesterday 500 bushels Mixed West
ern corn, and to-day 300 bushels changed bauds

OaT.s.— Demand fair and stock ample lor present

Lime.—A fair stock of Rockland lime Is offering a
$4 bbl. This is the only lime in market.
Rice—No change. From City Store sales of one

Cadiuges.—The stocks offeriug in Savannah are
exceedingly large, and sales have been made on the
wharf at 14 to sl7 t* hundred.
Potatoes —Yesterday and to-day. In consequence
of heavy receipts, Potatoes met with a heavydecline
on the wliarf good Mercer potatoes were sold ats* 60
bbl—from store the selling rate Is $3 75 to $4 V

Onions:—The large receipts have also caused a de

Salt.—The stock offering is very light; of Liver
