A colored man residing in Congress street lane,
weut to the pump, at the junction of Broughton'
and Habersham streets. After cuing his bucket and
returning home, !i soldier, as Is supposed, dressed In
tire uniform of a cavalryman, halted him and search,

the soldier following to the Fruit Store of Joshua
Ricks, (colored) on the south-west comer of Haber
sham and Congress street, which he entered. Imme
diately upon entering the store he exclaimed, “what
are you d—n negroes doing in here,” and raising hl6
carbine, fired. The.ball struck Wm. McAllister (col

ieft lung and his body. In passing out, tne bal]
struck the head of a soldier of the 103d United states
colored l oops, Inflicting a slight injury.
