FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL
Savannah, Sept. 23, 1865.
REMARKS.
Cotton.—Since our weekly report of the 16th Inst.,
there has been quite an animated demand for both
Upland and Sea Island Cottons, and all qualities
have advanced fully 2 cents per pound. The receipts
have been to a fair extent, but the greater portion
received by the river Is on account, and P* Immedi
ately shipped to the North, principally to New York.
The enquiry has been quite active, and all good and
fair grades placed on the market have met with
ready sale at the advance noticed above. Notwith
standing the inclement weather yesterday, the en
quiry was good, but the small amount on sale limited
the transactions.
The receipts during the week have been 4,172 bales
Upland, 50 do. Soa Island, and 210 do. Domestics. The
exports have been 6,223 bales Uplands, 350 do. Sea

hand and an shipboard, not cleared, of 4,889 hales of
Uplands, 130 do. Bea islands, and 129 do. of Domes
tics. The market closes firm at the following quota
