Mr Editor .—Coder the above heading,
we find in the Constiiutionakst of Oct. 3d,
the following statement:
“Many of the leading Methodist divines of
onr Slate, have, with the approval of their
congregations, made overtures to the Epis
copal Cliurca of Georgia, and some of the
cleric rl officers of the tiienonl convention, to
unite with the Episcopal church. Tlieir hos
tility to Northern Methodist and its inCidnu
tal hatred of the South in years past, is said
to be the prime motive of tbe act,”
The artic e which appeared in the Consti
tutionalist and which has been given above
in full, is, as we have been authentically in
formed. a selected arncie and not an edito
rial. Iu such case it ought to be corrected,
ns it contains erroneous statements and is
calculated to make impressions wide of the
truth.
Tue writer of this communication has every
reason to believe that ‘•many of the leading
Methodist divines of our State” have been
misrepresented. I can speak knowingly and
authoritatively for the Presiding Eiders < f t ie
ands rict of which I have The cvers, ght. lan
satisfied that from neither preacunrs uor
their congregations, have any overtures oi
whaiever kind been made to our brethren ot
the Episcopal church. Some, it is true, have
expressed, luemaelves iu fav<u <>f unitiuss
wiai the Episcopal church (tor which they
have great rtsped and love.) rather than see i
a reconstruction with the Northern Metlio- i
dists. This has been spoken among them
•elves, and, in eo case, I am satisfied, has
any proposition been made direcuy or in
directly to the authorities of the Episcopal
church in Georgia. The Methodist preachers
and tbe people ot the Augm»a distiict —am.
lam confident that the same is true of the
other districts iu tbe Georgia Conference—
are, with one voice, and with one heart, in
fav. rof preserving iut-.ct mir separate and
independent ecciesiastical orgauiration. The
only exception to this among the preachers
so tar as 1 bave heflTd, Is Hev. J. £l. Cald
well, who, in a communication which np
ptared ir, a JTorthern Methodist journal, ad
vocates a re-union with tbeNortnern Metho
dists, and Dot with the Episcopalians.
This much I have thought it necessary to
say to correct tbe false impression made by
the article to which this is a reply. To all
who feel any interest in the Methodists of
Georgia, we may say that it is the fixed pur
pose of preachers and people to preserve
under God our separate existence as a church
and, as announced iu the late pastmal ad
dress of onr beloved Bishops, to extend our
borders to the regions beyond.”
J. O. A. Clark,
Presiding Elder Augusta District,
Georgia Conference.
Notice to the Public.
IN the year JS46, the writer embarked in Drag
Business in the city of Philadelphia, aud while thug

knowing of th« prejudices that existed iu the minds of
many against usiug adTerlined Medicines or Nostrums,
but through Hie advice of friends mid those who had
used them this objection was overcome.
After lb y nre' xertiou*, commencing in a small wav,
tbe popularity of my articles lias extended to nil parts
of tin* United States. and widely throughout Foreign
countries—rad thb in the fac* of much ojiposition.
Every means has been resorted to by nuprincipl- and deal

MY OBJECT
n this notice is to make facts known to the public and
napoctable dealers, believiug, after so many years’ ex

* proceedings, and that the reputation of my articles
may not be damaged by the use of inferior or spurious
ones.
Knowing that many may read this article who are
unacquainted with me, 1 append a few remarks from
those of my native ciiy, ana whose names aro known
in all parts of the world:

”We do not like to advertise worthless wares,”or
articles calculated to deceive our readers; aud when
we see an advertiser like Mr. llelmbold, whom we
nave known for years, gradually extend his advertising
from year to year until he becomes the largest adver

stateflMßU in regard to his articles uimt he correct.
The writer re’nctantly inserts the above, and would
not do ah were he not a stranger to many; and con
