Two Hcndkeh and Snir Coolibs Drown ed oe Eaten bt Tiokr*. —The English pa pers give the particular* ot the loan of the American built ship Eagle Speed, while ou her way with four hundred aud ninety-seven coolies front Port Canning to Deuierara. The wreck took place near Halliday’s Island, August 22, and the fatal results as thus de scribed : “ Three of the Eagle Speed's boats were launched, manned by the crew. Including tbe coolies who threw themselves into the water on hencoops, the boat saved one hun dred and sixty-nine, and all tbe Europeans. Capt. Hoskin's boat made five trips, but the others were soon smashed: oue of them had at half past twelve brought off tbe captain, whom his own crew refused to help. The steamer Lady Elgin, which was near, left for Port Canning; no hint was given to three hundred miserable wretches who were sinking, to lauoch the ship's cutter, which had not been used, though the one European lelt and five negroes did do so, and with thirty coolies were afterwards touud by the steamer. The ship continued to doat ail that night, and did not sink till seven on Wednesday morning, justifying the opinion of Capt. Hoskins. ’ Considering the rate at which the ship was sinking, I was sanguine that we would have succeeded in getting the greater portion of the coolies out.” Two stermeis were at once sent round from Cal cutta, and the Lady Elgin returned trom Port Canning. They found three cooiie lads on the mast of t'ue wreck, and saved about sixty more who had floated to Halliday's and Butcher's Islands, where the tigers are said to have destioyed some. The coolies assert that the last European attempted to fire the ship. Os the four hundred and ninety-seven coolies two hundred aud sixty-seven seem to have perished on that terrible Wednesday morning or afterwards in the jungle.” ™vF b, «K’s Bureau Courts. °. rlea , ns Daily Star published an lnn P ih V ! rCU ar ' ~ ssued b y °en- Fuller- Vvaiuc J ij s^il iY r ottlcr’ courts established py the Freedmen’s Bureau. The cases iu which freedmen are concerned are remitted to the civil courts, to be disposed of as all others are ; the only way in which the in ference of representatives of the Fieedmen’s Bureau will be allowed in such cases is as “next friend or attorney and no arrests nor interference with courts will be allowed to be made by agents of the Bureau. The sole condition attached to these concessions is that the freedmen shall be treated with justice tempered with mercy, and with con sideration for the peculiar situation in which they find themselves placed. The Chain • Gang Ready. —Prepartious have now been completed to have a chain gang of the idle negroes found in Columbus. All colored people, who have no visible means of support, are to have a ball and chain attached to them, and sent to work at leveling the fortifications around the city, the city to faea them the while. It is the determination of both the civil aud the mili tary authorities that no idlers, who only can exist by pilfering and robbery, will be allow ed to remain in the city, unless they can be forced to earn their bread. Some eight are to be put to work this morning. —Columbus Sun. One Bottle did it.— That is the expres sion of many who have had their grey hair restored to its natural color, and their bald spot covered with hair, after using one bot tle of Mrs. S. A Allen's World's Hair Res torer and Hair Dressing. It is not a dye, it can do no harm. Every one who has used these preparations speak loud io their praise. If you wish to restoie your hair a9 iu youth and retaiu it through life, without delay pro cure these preparations. All Druggists keep them. novlo-eodl w Longstreet and Hood.— The New Orleans Times of October 21, says : “Among the re cent arrivals at the St. Charles Hotel are those of Generals Longstreet and Hood.— General Longstreet will never again recover the use of his right arm, having become par alytic by a severe wound in the neck some months ago. The health of General Hood remains the same. Both Generals Long street and Hood have received their pardon, and are now eu route to tbe quiet retirement of a peaceful life. ” On Sunday both officers were at Cairo, en route for Washington. Treaties with the Indians. —The Demo crat's special from Lawrence, Kansas, says that Gen. Harney’s chief clerk, Irwin, has arrived from tbe Indian Qouncil at tbe bead waters of tbe Little Arkansas River, The Council was in session twenty-two days, and concluded treaties with the Arapaboes, Cheyennes. Kiowas. Camanches, Caddoes. Apaches, the wildest of the tribes on the plains. Tbe Eiowas gave up two white wo men and six children held prisoners for eiglu months. Presents were distributed to the Indians after the treaties were signed. Nearly all the members of the commission are suffering trom fever and argue. While workmen were engaged, a few days since, iu removing the ruins of tbe late coai by fire in Philadelphia, quite an excitement was created by the discovery of the fact that a large quantity of oil bad settled in puddles iu tbe cellars of tbe buildings. Thousands of people flocked to the scene, with tubs, pails aud barrels, to gather up the oil. One person disposed of what he had gathered during the day for fifty dollars. Dr. G. W. Robards, late of Gonzales, Tex as, was murdered on the fourth of October near Crockett, in the presence of his bride Mate Miss Park, of Avoyelles,) by Mr. John T. Crawley, who lived near Crockett. Craw ley at first surrendered himself) but after wards made his escape. He was pursued but not captured.
