Have been recently added to the market, and two
more are about to be erected for the saleof small meats
and porks. In the Fisli market,-at the north side of
tlie market, four Dew stalls have been erected, and
more important Improvements are contemplated.
Uuder the charge of Messrs. Joseph Llppmau, Chan
man of the market committee, and Messrs. ViUa
loiiga * Laclilison, the market will, for cleanliness
ami cumtnodiousness, reflect credit on the city. Yes
terday over sixty carts from the adjacent counties,
arrived, bringing a large amount of produce, and
our people, In large numbers, availed themselves of
the opportunity to make liberal purchases, although
prices were very high. The ruling prices or produce
in our market are shown iu the following statement :
Beef is quite abundant and sales of lots have been
made at u a 12c'per lb, ”
The market is well supplied. For acveral weeks
odlv a scant supply of hogs has been offered, caus
ing holders to advunee their rates. But yesterday
they were compelled to succomb, owing to a large
receipt of slaughtered hogs. The price wa9 from
#toli>fo per lb., according to the quality of the
meat. Ponltry is in abundance. Turkeys arc selling
at from S2,SO to each ; half grown chickens $1
per pair; grown $1 60; extra size $175 to $2. Sweet
potatoes Ere plentiful at $2 per bushel, and meet
with a very regular sale. Oysters are retailing at
30c per quart. Fish has advanced from 40 to SO cents
p t string. Wild ducks are selliug at 76c to $1 so per
pair and are plentiful. Partridges are very scare and
are idling at 25c per pair. Snipes at 25c each.

Ihe Planters Hotel.—The completion t f
the work of thoroughly renovating and re
habilitating this now first class hou»e, con
ducted by Mr. George Gemenden, was <el. -
brated with due m/at on Thursday ereni ug,
by a magnificent supper at the hotel, at
which a select assemblage of oar first citizens
was present. The yiands set forth by mine
host Germenden, were of that rare quality
and in that bountiful profusion for which the
name of Gemenden of toe Planters' has
come to be a synonym among the epicures ot
Savannah. The table groaued beneath
its load of gastronomic wonders in flesh,
nsh and fowl„ achieved by the magic skill of
the presiding genius of the kitchens of the
Planter s Hotel, Frau Gemeoder, and was
f?y ace d.with huge long-necked bottles,
toe like of which we veuturc to say, are
scarcely to be found this side of the Rhine
country—and from which, the red spirits
and white of Rhineland were evoked in an
unstinted flow. The removal of the cloth was
followed by the usual feast of reason aud
flow ol soul attendant on such occasions
The brilliancy and wit of the many eloquent
speeches made (some speeches vociferously
called for were not made) were of that evan
escent character which mock the reporter s
art, and we are unable to lay them before
our readers at this time- Safflce it to say that
the occasion was one of unalloyed pleasure,
and uninterrupted good feeling
Alter the testivities of the occasion were
concluded, we had the pleasure of being
conducted by Mr. Gemeudeu through the
extensive culinary department ot the Hotel,
which, under the personal superintendence
of Mrs. Gemenden, is a model of neatness
and order; and also through the capacious
wiDe vault, where are stored in innumerable
casks, barrels, tierces, tuns, bottles and orig
inal packages of every description, Mr. Ge
menden's direct importations of Rudes
beiruer, Ascbmunbauser and other
Rhine wines, together with the liquors
of all countries, lager bier aud sweilzercate
straight Irom where they know how to make
it. The restaurant and bar attached to the
hotel are filled up in the most complete and
tastefnl style, and what with the superior
quality of the viands furnished, and the ex
cellent manner in' which they are served up,
the Planter’s lail to become the fa
vorite resort .of all who appreciate good liv
ing.
White Servant Girls.—From many sour
ces we learn that white help is much wanted
in many households in this city. Immediate
Employment can be obtained by intelligent
honest aud industrious white girls.

Another New Saw Mill Being Erected
in Savannah.—We are at all times pleased to
chronicle any improvements in our city.
There is now being erected on the east hank
of the Ogeecbee Canal near Giles and Brad
ley’s bridge, a circular saw-mill of forty
horse power f also a planing, tonguigg and
grooving establishment to be connected with
the mill.
The projectors and proprietors of this en
terprise are Messrs. Blair, Bickford & Cos.,
who have also entered largely into the sash, <
door and blind business- Their establish
ment is id Jones Block, Bay street- Mr. Blair
is an old citizen of Savannah, and in times
past, enjoyed a high reputation as a Master
Builder. Success is certain to attend this en
terprise, as the meu who are at its head are
energetic and are not afraid of labor.
Daring Robbery —Thursday night last,
the store of Mr. Pierce Skehau on Broughton
street, jras entered aud robbed of a few cases
‘of ales and wines. The thieves by means ol
false keys picked the lock of the iron grating
on Congress street lane, leading into the
basement ol the store. They then endeavored
to force the trap door leading into the main
store, in which they failed, a large amount of
goods were piled upon it. Had they
■fncceeaea in torcing up tne trap-awi, vm»a»
sands of dollars worth of valuable goods
could have been removed. There were set
eral persons sleeping on the premises, but so
noiseless were the thieves in committing
their depredations, that they were not, heard.
A Beautiful Pbesbmt.—With true pleasure we
acknowledge the receipt of a most exquisite boquet
of flowers from Mrs. Mary Marshal. Few gardens or
conservatories, even in the floral season could for -
nish a greater variety of rare and beautiful flowers
than are comprised in tlie tastefully arranged bo
quet that looks such a stranger on our table, amid
bookß, manuscrip’s and papers, and sheds its dell,
clous fragrauce throughout our sanctum.
We thankfully accept and highly prize these win
ter flowers, as an appropriate token of the kind re
gards of the venerable doner, in whose heart still
lingers a love for the pure and beautiful.
The production of such a variety of flowers at this
season, la a triumph of the skill of that experienced
florist and horticulturalist, Mr. Richard Thomas.
Distressing Accident on Board the Steamer
GENERAL SHEPLEY—TWO PERSON’S DROWNED.—We
regret to state that on Sunday last, while the steam
er General Shepley was passing up the Altamaha
river to Doctortowu, “Little Tom," a colored boy,
aged about nine years, employed on board tlie
Steamer was swept overboard by the limb of a tree
abd drowned, while the steamer was making the
bend of Bugg'9 Bluff.
On the passage down the Altamaha, while near
Little Hell, James Ross, a deck hand, native of Da
rien, Mclntosh County, Georgia, who was sitting on
the port forward rail, fell overboard. The wheels
of the steamer were backed and a plank thrown to
Ross, but he appears to have lost all presence of
mind after reaching the water, and was drowned.
Ross was a quiet young man and was much esteem
ed by the officers of the boat.
Cotton Stkauko.—lt appears that the epidemic
of cotton stealing is not confined to Savannah, but
has extended to the coast. A few day 9 since a bale
of upland cotton was stolen at Hiltou Head. From
information received, there is no doubt among par
ties on the track of it, that the bale was received in
Savannah yesterday morning and was immediately
■old to one of the numerous receivers of stolen cotton
In the city. Tile police have the matter under investi
