THE BRITISH SHIP COUNTY OF PICTON.—A few days since the new ship “County of Plcton," built In 1886, arrived at tills port from Glasgow with an as sorted cargo, consigned to Messrs. Charles Green A Son. The “Couuty of Pioton” Is a beautiful specimen of marine architecture and was built In the shire town of Plcton, Nova Scotia. The following are her dimensions: length ol keel Is 16* feet; length over all, 188 feet; breadth of beam, 31 feet 3 inches; depth of hold, 18 feet 10 inches; tonnage, 683 tons, English measurement. The ship was built under the imme diate supervision of her master, Mr. George McKen zie, who is well kuown in the British Provinces as a veteran ship bulkier. At the Underwriters’ office of Lloyd's, the “County of Plcton" Is rated Al. Lobs of the Schooner Israel R. Snow in Ty ree Roads.—On the 26th of November lost the schr. Israel R. Snow, Capt. Achorn, laden with 800 bhls. of lime and 100 bbls. of potatoes, sailed from Rockland, Maine, consigned to Messrs. F. W. Sims A Cos., of this city. On Sunday last the vessel entered Tybee Roads with ber cargo on Are, having experienced heavy weather, during which she sprung aleak and started her upper seams. On yesterday morning it was found necessary to beach the vessel on Tybee Island, Inside of the outer roads, In order to save the crew, and as much of the property as possible. The masts of the schooner were cut away before she was beached. Prom Augusta.—The steamer General Berry, C »pl. Henry, arrived yesterday from Augusta. The Eclipse Link of Steamers.—The attention of oir merchants and business men is called to the wliuugu ur LUC AgeilCJ wf me mcaiuvr- B.H a *aA and Express plying between Savannah and Augusta, known as the "Eclipse Line.’’ Messrs. F. W. Sims A Cos. are the new agents. The reputation attained by the steamer Express, the first steamer paced on tne hue. Is sufficient to warrant underwriters and ship pers in continuing their favors to Messrs. Sims A Cos. A few days hence the new steamer Eclipso will be ready to make tier regular trips, after the completion of a few additions to her machinery. Chatham County Jail.—Yesterday afternoon Mr. Waring Rnssell, Jailor of Chatham County, waa placed by the Government in charge of one half of Chatham County Jail. We are pleased to know that Mr. Russell Is again at this post, where be .la the right man In the right place. Mr. Russell has se cured the services of Mr. George Canfree, as his de puty. With the efforts of the officials of the Govern ment and of Mr. Kusseil and his assistants, the jatl will be kept in excellent condition, and its inmates under strict discipline. Vegetables.—On Saturday afteruuuu last, Mr, Xlcholas Gull, one ol the Industrious gardeners or Lover’s Laue, had exposed for sale a bountiful sup ply of diuuer TCgetalilca. Be had on hand a quan tity of lettuce which, by great care, he has been en abled to Introduce several weeks In advance of other gardener*. We are also pleased to notice that our market Is well supplied with vegetables from the other gardens In the vicinity of Savannah. Removal or tub Tkleubaph Office.—The Tele graph office, which has bltheuo been located in the Exchange building, Is now removed to the City Hotel on Bay street.
