al.—Wc leuru by an arrival from Hilton Head yes
terday, that the New York steamships San Salvador,
Leo ami Constitution, which sailed from here on Sal
urday, met a heavy gale Just outside the bar on Sat
urday eveulug and were compelled to make Port
Royal harbor, for an anchorage. The steamships re
mained there until Sunday evening, when they sailed
agaiu for New York.

The Comet’s Caruo.—The steamer Ella, with 346
hale* of upland cotton arrived yesterday afternoon
from the nomulgee River. Her cargo consists eu'
entirely of a portion of the cargo of the steamer
Comet snagged and sunk in Ocmulgte river on the
2nd Inst. Capt. Wilson has remained Uv the wreck
and has succeeded in saving cargo to a great ex
tent.
In Distuehs.—The steamship Lulu, Capt. Taber,
from New York on the 16th lust., with a full cargo
of merchandize bound to Mobile, arrived here yes
terday In distress. Ou the l»th Inst, south of Hat
teras.the steamer eucountered a severe gale of wind
and sprung a leak, aud has put In here for a harbor
and repairs.

transport, which for many months ha* been per
forming duty in the Ordinance Department, being In
use of a party at work dismantling the rortiffca
tlonsou the coast, la now at the government machine
shop, St. Helena Island, South Carolina, undergoing
a complete course of repair*. Tbe Davla will be
ready In about two weeks.
Steamer Fannie.—Tilts steamer which was un
avoidably detained in port by bad weather will leave
for JacksonvUe this morning at ten o'clock.
From Mat.anzar.—The brig Monticello, dve' days
from Matau/.as, co Richardson A Barnard, arrived
day before yesterday with a cargo ol' molasses, sugar
and fruit. The molasses and sugar, we learu, are
to be sold at auction on the wharf tomorrow.
Tax Theatre.—Last evening was an eventful
one, returning an old favorite, Mr. W. H. Crisp, and
introducing anew attraction In the person of Miss
Rose Wood, the charming daiiteu.ee. We have only
room to say, that the debut of Miss Wood created a
genuine furore. Beautiful In person, graceful in
style, aud tasterul In costume, she carried the house
by perfect storm. She makes her last appearance on
*our boards to-niglit.
