LETTERS FROM THE PEOPLE
JERE HOWARD WANTS FOLKS TO
WAKE VP.
Dear Brther Watson: From long
acquaintance with the work you are
doing in opening the eyes of this
country io its alarming situation,
under a Roman Catholic executive,
inclines me more to write you while
1 anl able to write, to express my
sympathy with you in the work.
Many of us did not vote for the situa
tion —I have been looking for it ever
since your election was stolen in Au
gusta. I am about IG_ years older
than you— when the worst, which
may soon come, if living, I will be
easy to find with you. I have been
sick .all this year; when awake I
think about the situation, and when
asleep often dream about it.
A mass meeting cf the citizens of
Bulloch County was held in States
boro last week, to have more sober
■voting than had been in the county
before, but it was comparatively a
gmit on a horn, regarding the great
question that now confronts us.
The leading politicians like to con
sult you for information, but they
doii'i like to give you credit for that,
rml will grin and endure your abuse
( they call it,) when you expose
them. The hit bird flutters.
I have read your book on Foreign
Missions, and some preachers J am
rrry to say have been hard on you,
< .'.using the laity of the church to
think you were anti-missionary; it
was the foreign mission board sys
tem you were a'.ter: every mission
ary organized Baptist church is an
independent body, capable of- self
government cr .ought to be, to dis
pose of their mission funds.
The laity of the church, “Catho
lic'’-like, unfortunately are not in
formed on (bat line, and the preach
ers don't seem very particular about
it. Home would rob you of the credit
of the R. F. D. service, but there is
no one to rightfully claim it for the
people but you, and you were robbed
o further service for the people,
bin same element is still there.
You warned the people of Wood
row Wilson, Bryan and Hoke Smith:
Smith in 'articular, fooled you, me,
; id t'.io rood po-’G m o ! ‘ Ceorgm 'who
>ve him a land slide into the cxecu
>'■ ■ ■ si< : that s their fault.
The next fording by them will be our
fuii’; Georgian’s see to it.
Hos -it-all Hoke greatly impressed
i heads dov i h ’e, in his first
speech made for Governor, that he
favored disfranchising the negro;
t dismissing the county unit plan
turns it upon the white man, and its
proven by his record.
Old Man Peepul, will von forget
that crowd and his trip off to nego
tiate for cheaper labor, to crowd cut
t !jr Southern bread earners?
I was it his first inauguration as
( o’ oruor, and there 1 caught on to
liis betrayal of us.
You countrymen and laborers of
all avocations; be wkle awake; when
■ ' i an tools me once it’s his fault,
hut afterwards it’s mine;-and I can
truthfully say. that in all my long
acquaintance Thos. E. Watson bias
mver fooled mo; 1 tale him to be a
devoted Christian in name and prac
tice. and I ahi vet to find Irm other
wise. Yours truly,
Ga. J ERE HOWARD.

A NEW FRIEND, WHO LIKES VS.
Dear Sir: I am a new subscriber
to your Jeffersonian, have only re
ceived a few copies. I know it is one
of the finest papers in print. I
scarcely realize how a true citizen
can do without it. I have read with
great pleasure your editorial of
June 11th, entitled ’‘Nobody Wants
to Drag the Frank Case in Politics.”
You speak my sentiments exactly in
this piece, also in June 18th, your
last issue.
Mr. Watson I have had the pleas
ure of seeing that lustful brute, Leo
M. Frank,, in the court house in the
city of Atlanta, Ga., while having his
trial. I saw him for three days, and
the more I saw of him the more the
guilt showed up on him. His por
trait in the Jeffersonian of May 7th,
is exactly like him, I afterwards saw
little Mary Phagan his victim, while
laying a corpse. I certainly would
like to have had business at Mariet
ta, Ga., when “The’’ Great Detective
came through there, William Jackass
Burns. I am speaking of not hav
ing had the pleasure of seeing him
yet, and don’t guess I will, hope not
anyway. We don't need him in
Paulding County, and I think New-
York could make out without him.
Don’t you? I am going to see how
many subscribers I_can send you in
a few days. I don’t, think it will be
long before the Jeff and the Maga
zine will be welcome visitors Io near
ly every home. You are. gaining
more friends every day.
May the God of Heaven bless,
guard and protect you through the
many years of usefulness which you
are now- in. With best wishes for
yourself and family and every suc
cess to the Jeff and .Magazine.

You will hear some people ask
why the teachers did not endorse the
McCrory -School Boel; Bill. Do you
expect them to endorse a bill that
will prevent this graft? Every
teacher in Georgia that orders books
from these publishing houses re
ceives a rake off of 20 per cent. Is
it so wonderful that they failed to
endorse a bill that will prevent this?
Let the truth be known and the com
mon people of Georgia will demand
lows that will prevent the helpless
from being ‘‘held up” in this manner.
Some teachers in Georgia, may give
this rake off to their pupils, but
some may not. Who is it in Georgia
that will stand for such graft? Who
will help me to pass such laws as
will forever prevent such? Voters
ask your candidates where they
stand onMJiis question.
Very truly yours,
Ga. ’ C. R. McCRORY.

Dear Sir: I see by the “Menace,”
that Rome is after- you in another
libel case. Here is a dollar to help
fight the octapus. Turn on the
searchlight, and reveal the hidden
things of darkness. The truth is
what hurts. No compromise with po
litical Romanism.
You are doing a grand work in
exposing their schemes to make
America Catholic.
Yours for success,

A LETTER FROM A FRIEND.
Dear Sir: Having been a reader
of your paper for some time, and
much interested in what you had to
say about the Frank case, also on
the Roman Catholic question, I feel
that your paper is a God-send to us.
I wish more editors would discuss
these matters as you do. It seems
to me the only way to dispose of the
Roman Catholic question is to feed
them out of the same spoon they
have been feeding the Protestants
out of.
I will be glad to see in The Jeff
who you think will make the best
public officials. We are going to
cut out voting for the man who has
shown that he will curry favor with
the Roman Catholics.
I am sorry they have jumped on
you again with that false charge. It
is going to take the combined effort
of all our people to whip this matter
out.
1 am with you in your fight. Keep
us posted on all these things.
Fraternally yours,
O. D. NOT.AN.
