Freemasonry a Crime Punish
able by Death!
So Says the Pope and the Law
of Rome!
TYXE of numerous tricks of popery consists
in placing Roman Catholic spies inside
non-Catholic secret societies.
In this way, the Pope secs the cards of his
enemies, without showing his own.
Jesuits worm themselves into Labor or
ganizations, into the Knights of Pythias, into
the Odd Fellows, and into the Masonic
lodges.
Any priest can “dispense" a Catholic, so
that he can take the most solemn vows of the
anti-Papal orders, learn all the secrets, pre
tend to be a foe to Papery throughout his
life, and then die in the odor of sanctity
because lie acted as a useful spy for Rome.
If the Freemason's of this land don't look
sharp, they will find their organization honey
combed with Jesuits.
It is an amazing thing to note that in
Baltimore and St. Paul, the Masons are hob
nobbing with those traitors —the 4th Degree
Knights of Columbus —extending to them the
use of the Masonic buildings, and acting as
hosts of these dangerous guests.
Still more extraordinary is the conduct of
the California Masons who are defending
these Uh Degree night-hawks of the foreign
church.
For the information of Masons, The Jeffer
sonian published the fearful indictment which
was brought against tire .Masonic order by
7 Ztc J cw 11 arid.
That paper is the official Catholic organ for
the diocese of Chicago.
It has the endorsement of the Pope, and of
Archbishop Quigley.
Therefore what it published against the
Masons, and never tool- hack, is the official
Catholic view of Freemasonry.
The Pope's ambassador ta Washington
compelled Rev. D. S. Phelan to publish, with
out comment. the ambassador's reprimand of
him, the said Phelan, because Phelan had
exercised the rights of a free American by
criticising a Romanist Bishop for condemn
ing the Tango dance.
But t’ne Pope's ambassador did not rebuke
Archbishop Blank's organ for accusing the
Masons of being anarchists, athiests, ami
criminals of the darkest type.
Nor did (he Pope's ambassador reprimand
CardkiT William O'Connell of Boston for
his tirade against the Masons, in which this
insolent. paunchy and sworn-to-persecute
priest accused the Masons of ail manner of
crime in Mexico.
Why was it that such men as Quigley and
(> Connell cm give '.’ent to frightful abuse of
the Masons without calling down upon them
;' k'' the reproof of Ambassador Bonzano,
md the Italian Pope?
The reason is this:
//■/ the lam of Italian popery, ?lasons are
(rimrmds pc nishaldc by death !
Quigley and O'Connell are merely letting
another black cat oi.it the Papist bag.
For the first time in these I iiited States,
.■the high-priests of Rome are introducing
from Europe (lie Papal law as to Freema
sonry.
Rome hates all secret societies, except her
own. but she hates the Masons with the dead
liest rancor of all.
Wherever there is a secret organization
vhicih shuts Romanists out. the Pope sees
independence, and the record shows that
Popes here ever been murderously intolerant
of any sort of Iml c pend cnee.
“Bow to me. as to God ! Obey me, as you
would obey God. Don't read any books that
say a word against me. Don’t have any
thought that is disloyal to me. Don’t have
any secret that you won't give away to me.
THE JEFFERSONIAN
in the confessional. Be mine in soul and
body and mind—and keep your dues paid up
—and you will go to Heaven. Otherwise, I
will see to it that you go to hell, and that it
will cost your family quite a lot of money to
have your soul prayed into a state of re
pose.”
That's the voice of Italian popery.
It hasn’t reached its limit of arrogance in
this country, yet. They have been feeding us
on soft corn.
But, here recently, they have begun a cru
sade to control our Postoffice Department and
to destroy the freedom of the press.
The K. of C. mobs have been waging brutal
war on our public speakers, to destroy free
dom of speech.
And the rabid attack on the Masons is only
another reef of the sail that they are letting
out.
Did you know that Pope Plus VI. issued
two decrees (Bulls) against Freemasonry,
pronouncing it a crime punishable by death?
Do the American Catholics know this? Do
the American priests know it?
ASK TH EV!
Pope Clement XII. did the same thing,
and the Papal Inquisition imprisoned, tor
tured, and killed every Mason that they could
get any proof on.
In the Catholic portions of Germany, the
Masons were penalized'by law, just as rob
bers and murderers were.
Frederick the Great, himself a Mason, was
almost the only powerful protector the Ger
man Masons had.
What will you think of those California
Masons when I tell you that Pope Benedict
XIV., the predecessor in name to the present
Papa, not only condemned Masons by terri
ble decrees, but launched the thunders of
Papal law against “dll persons who in any
manner whatever favor Freemasonry? r>
'The fierce attacks which Archbishop Quig
ley and Cardinal O’Connell have made on
Masonry, is the exact reproduction of the
Pope’s own laws, the Pope’s own books, and
the Pope's own death warrants against com
demned Masons. „
I have in my hand a copy of the sentence
which the Inquisition, at Rome, Italy, passed
on a Mason,-in 1791, and under which he was
done to death in prison, after three years of
i ndescribable t orture.
The language of that official document is
the very same in spirit, and purpose, as that
which O'Connell and Quigley are now hurl
ing against American Masons.

On page 251 of Andrews’ “Institutes of
General History,” (1890), the learned author
quotes from an official Catholic paper pub
lished in Barcelona, Spain, since ISBS, in
which the writer expresses a longing for the
re-establishment of the Holy Inquisition, and
exults over the prospect of the coming again
of the Papal power “when we see the Masons,
Spiritualists, Freethinkers and anti-Clericals
writhe in the flames?'’
This Roman Catholic writer may have been
one of the murderers of Professor Ferrer,
whom the priests caused to be shot because be
was introducing modern schools in Spain.
Do Yow Want to Understand
Why Our Country Is In its
Present Condition?
'T'TIE business depression and financial cri
-1 sis now afflicting the people are the re
sults of evil laws.
This is fully explained in two books that
we sell.
Read our “Handbook of Politics and Politi
cal Economy,” and Watson’s Speeches which
treat of these very matters.
What Right Have the Bankers
to Dictate to the Government
and to the Farmers ?
(continued from page one.)
VAN ENT LOAN, TAXED OUT OF ALL
OF US, AND GIVEN TO A FAVORED
FEW.
Is that your idea of Democracy ?
Is that what you meant to vote for?
Having dictated to the Government, the
demi-gods now sign a pledge, to starve out
the.people, unless the farmers will kneel and
take orders f»om the ‘banks.
Before those demi-gods crack their whip
over your heads in that insolent style, don’t
you think they might at least pay back the
$78.Q()O,OOO of your money, which they took
out of the Treasury ?
If they would do this, the Government,
would have no excuse for these new taxes.
Don't you think that those bankers of the
Cotton Belt, v'Zm have entered into THIS
CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE FARM
ERS, might have used their influence upon
their flunkeys in Congress, and have had those
flunkeys vote the payment of the debt which
the Government owes the South, on that ille
gal Cotton Tax?
That debt is $200,000,000, and if the Gov
ernment were decently honest toward the
South, it would create some more new money,
and let the farmers have some of it.
The Solid South made this Demo'cratic Ad
ministration.
Without the Southern delegations in Con
gress, it could not move a peg.
YET. IT HAS TREATED THE SOUTH
WORSE „ THAN AN I 7 DECENT MAN
TREATS A DECENT DOG.
It has run to the relief of every cry of dis
tress, except Olli's. .
It has had money, and ships, and legisla
tion for every meed, except ours.
Instead of legislating for us, it has legis
lated against us; and. instead of freeing us
from the iron grip of the Morgan-Rockefeller
Money Trust, it has put upon us the very
system which Senator Aldrich framed at the
dictation of J. P. Morgan and Jake Schiff.
This is literally true. The bill which the
Democrats denounced, when the Republicans
offered it. is the law that the Democrats have
used, to put us into financial slavery.
In the mean time, it occurs to me that these
3,000 demi-gods, who are extending their
banking business into a despotism over the
farming business, are playing a hazardous
game.
When they signed that pledge to.mtfram
the farmers from producing the normal
amount of cotton, and to restrain them into a
fixed limit, these conspirators were violating
the spirit of the Sherman Anti-Trust law.
The law penalizes the restraint of trade and
production.
If those 3.000 demi-gods don’t mind what
they are about, they may have some business
to 'attend to. ON THE CRIMINAL SIDE
OF THE FEDERAL COURTS.
The farmers serve oh the grand juries in
those courts; and if Judge Newman, or Judge
Foster, or Judge Pardee, or Judge Speer,
should deliver a stiff charge on the subject of
THIS ARROGANT BANK CONSPIRACY*
AGAINST THE FARMERS, there might
be a very pretty kettle of fish.
