A NATIVE GEORGIAN, NOW OF
TENNESSEE, GRIEVES FOR
HIS STATE.
Dear Sir: lam a native of Geor
gia and am a subscriber to your pa
per. I have been rendered so heart
sick over the failure of the Georgia
papers to defend Georgia against
outside attacks growing out of the
Frank case. As far as the papers
are concerned you stand almost alone
in defense of the State. The great
majority of the people of Georgia
know that Frank is guilty, but for
some reason they and the news
papers, other than yours, are silent.
I am so glad you have so ably de
fended the State and the courts. I
do so wish your paper could get be
fore all the people everywhere, for
they are being so grossly misled by
other papers, especially those out of
the State. In this town, Chatta
nooga, there is a paper, the Chatta
nooga Times, run by the Ochses and
it has so distorted the facts and
come right down to lying that I stay
mad all the time by reading it. And
then the little afternoon paper, the
News, seems to have been subsidized
also. So, the people of this city, by
reading the lies published by these
two papers, are under the impression
that Frank is innocent and was
wrongly convicted. I do wish all of
them could have put before them
your last issue. I wish this so
strongly that I propose the following:
If you will print the same matter in
circular form or in any manner you
see fit and will send them to me I
will have them placed in every home
in this city at my own expense. That
is, you print them and I will have
them put in the homes, you bearing
the former and I the latter expense.
Thanking you for what you have
written in the matter and assuring
you of my highest regards and best
wishes, I am,
Sincerely yours,
Tenn. A. B. CARLISLE.
HERE’S AN APPRECIATION OF
WATSON’S MAGAZINE.
Dear Sir: “Watson’s Magazine.”
It was the voice of a little boy on
the street, I gladly heard the cry and
as gladly bought the Magazine. I
have just finished reading it through,
and it is a gem indeed. How much
real history you crowd into a few
words. Your review of “Brook’s
History of Georgia,” was splendid.
Judging from your review the child
would get more real history from
your review, concerning the people
of Georgia than from Brook’s His
tory. Your tribute to Sam P. Jones
and to the good women were simply
glorious. You are certainly a “home
hitter.” But no man can say with
his pen more beautiful things than
you can. How I wish your Jeff and
Magazine could be sold in every city,
town and village and read by every
man, woman and child in this “The
home of the free and land of the
brave,” but which is fast becoming
to be “The home of the Pope and
the land of cowardly Protestants.”
"Why is the pulpit of this country so
silent? Why is it that such evange
lists as Billy Sunday, Gypsy Smith,
etc., are so silent as to the Catholic
“Mother of Harlots.” All honor to
the Editor of The Jeff and Watson’s
Magazine for his courage and fidelity
to the freedom of his native land and
country in exposing the rotten
abomination called Roman Catholi
cism. Long may you live to carry on
the grand fight you are making.
God pitty those weak-kneed, jelly
fish back-bone Protestants who are
afraid to stand by you in your noble
fight, they are 'not worthy to be
called Americans. I see President
Wilson has vetoed the immigration
bill. Wonder if Cardinal Gibbons
told him to do so? If his pet Secre
tary Tumulty told him to do so?
I see Brooks County is ready for
the Belgians. Well I will venture
to say that if they get them they
will be like the Irishmna who got
the coon. Two Irishmen saw 5
coon up a tree, and said, “Hould on
Pat till go ulp the tree and get
.hould of him.” He went up the tree
THE JEFFERSONIAN
and got hold of the coon and the
coon got hold of him. The other one
said, “Have yer got him,” “Yes,”
said the one up the tree, “I have got
hould of him, come on up quick and
help me turn loose of him.”
After Brooks County gets them
they will be wanting some one to
help them turn them loose. By the
way I sent you a clipping from the
“Georgia Bible,” The Atlanta Con
stitution. While this poor old ex-
Confederate soldier is arrested for
begging bread because he was hungry
and put in jail, the “Big Bugs” were
begging for $70,000 to pay for a lot
of people to come to Atlanta and
sing. But none of them were ar
rested. While we are falling over
each other to send provisions to the
poor Belgians, thousands of Ameri
cans are cold, ragged and hungry.
While they are trying to bring a lot
of foreigners to this country and
give each of them a farm, etc., there
are thousands of honest Georgia
born and raised farmers who do not
own a plot of land who would be
glad to have a farm of their own,
any one of w r hom are worth more to
this country as American citizens
than all the religious toe kissers over
there. They propose to build school
houses and churches for them, while
there are thousands of poor children
in Georgia who need school houses.
While they are so anxious to pro
vide priests for them and to take
care of them, there are .many old
worn out preacher of the different
denominations who have given their
lives to the work of the ministry
who do not own a home and are in
need. It makes a man sick to
think how blind some charity is. I
see some one has suggested you and
Teddy Roosevelt for the next Presi
dent and Vice-President. Well, that
would be like hitching up a thorough-,
bred and a jackass together, and
your Uncle Tom would not be the
jackass by any means. I don’t think
Teddy will live long enough to run
for anything, I am afraid he will die
with a broken heart over the out
rage so-called of the priests and
nuns of Mexico. lam ready to give
a dollar to the monument of poor lit
tle Mary Phagan who sacrificed her
life on the altar of her virtue resist
ing the brutal lust of a demon, Leo
Frank.

DR. BROOKS, OF ALABAMA, IS A
JEFF BOOSTER.
Dear Sir: I come again with a
small subscription to your most
valuable journal and Jeff, I most
heartily endorse your stand that you
take for the liberty of free speech
and of free press, and separation of
State and Church, and I pray God
that your writings and other pat
riotic literature are opening the eyes
of this nation, a poor sleeping peo
ple, and that God may spare you and
guide you in every undertaking for
his righteous cause.
I think the course you have taken
in the Frank case is very plain that
your press has not yet been muzzled.
The course that you are taking
against the fangs of the Lion is most
wonderful. I was told last week by
a brother in my profession, that he
was told by an M. D., a friend of his
a K. of C., that Mary Phagan was a
Catholic, and all of the lodges of
the K. of C. members were assessed
25 cents apiece to prosecute Frank
for killing her. I took issue with
him, and had him to read their oath.
I asked him what he thought of that,
he said that any man that would sign
it was ad — fool. I told him that
300,000 fools of that kind were in
the U. S. Would like to hear from
you through the Jeff on this.
I bid you God speed in your work
for patriotism. With brotherly love,
I remain, Yours truly,

ROMAN CATHOLICISM £2
Tn reprint of main points of the celebrated Senate Document
I* °: ‘ which the Taft Commission reported to President

duced in the Philippine Islands.
That official document quoted almost in full, as it was sent to
the Senate by President McKinley, embodying the sworn testimony
taken in the Islands.
Critical examination of those principles and practices of the
Roman Catholic Church which necessarily make it a deadly menace
to Democratic principles and a Republican form of government, as
well as to civil and religious liberty, and to the morality of the
people.
The terrible evils of the confessional box shown up, as demon
strated from Roman Catholic sources; historical examples given.
