The Scaly-Backs and Mud Turtles are Actually Listening to the Weather.
ITTLE did I think that the Birmingham
Age-Herald (Alabama) would scoop all
the Southern dailies, by making the first ref
erence to the Sacred Cow.
The holy and immaculate animal is, of
course, the Roman Catholic Church, hand
made by Roman bishops, and growing so
slowly that it did not complete its creed until
after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.
The Roman bishops discovered in 18G5 that
Joseph’s wife, Mary, was supernatural ly con- '
ceived, and, in 1870, they made*another voyage
and discovered that the Pope was infallible.
At the time this belated discovery was
made, the Pope’s two daughters were belles
in Rome, and they kept on ringing after
Papa had been declared, virtually, a member
of the Trinity.
According to the Age-Herald there is an
issue of anti-Romanism in the Presidential
campaign, this year.
The Age-Herald sapiently charges, that
this issue is a Republican trick, to defeat Wil
son.
So? At any rate, the Sacred Cow is now
on the carpet, as it were, and I shouldn’t won
der if the Georgia dailies woke up, one of
these days.
A Republican trick? Dear Susan, that’s
bad: we musn’t permit these wicked Repub
licans to fling flouts at our Sacred Cow.
Let’s see:
Was it a Republican trick that placed a
Jesuit and 4th degree Knight of Columbus
between President and People?
Fair Questions for Governor Nat Harris and Supt. Brittain.
IN the City of Savannah, there are two
* schools, whose expense of maintenance
falls upon the taxpayers of Georgia, but
whose teachers are all Catholics, selected by
Roman priests.
The pupils in these schools carry the Pope’s
catechism to the school-house, along with
their other text-books, and the Catholic
teachers instruct the children in Romanism at
the school-Kouse.
These Romanist schools observe all tlie
Pope’s “holy days”, and are in all respects
Rtman Catholic schools.
Prof. Otis L. Ashmore is the scholarly
chief of the Savannah public schools and the
Professor is conclusively presumed to have
read the Constitution of the State of Georgia.
Therefore, the Professor is bound to know
that any school in which any religion is
taught, is utterly outside the scope of the pub
lic school system.
Ex-Judge Samuel B. Adams is Chairman
pf the Board of Education, and inasmuch as
he was once on our Supreme Bench, it is
Reasonable to suppose that he also, may have
Read the Supreme law of this State.
ANTI-ROMANISM SPREADING.
Thomson, Gai. Thursday, June 1, 1916
Was it a Republican trick when Tumulty
dished out the most lucrative offices to his
fellow Knights because they were Kniedits of
Columbus?
Was it a Republican trick when the Presi
dent entered upon political relations with the
Tope ?
Was it a Republican trick when the Presi
dent put a Knight of Columbus in Control
of the Public Printing, another Knight in
charge of the New York Custom House, and
Why were the white Democrats of Georgia
DISFRANCHISED by the mach in e
politicians ?
The Baltimore platform laid down
the law for the next four years, there
after ; and that law is still in force.
Why did the Bosses violate it ?
Why were the white Democrats
denied a chance to vote for their
Presidential nominee ?
Why was the Primary not held,
when the highest law of the party re
quires it?
Why did the Bosses treat white
Democrats as though they were a
parcel of niggers ?
Possibly, our Poll-tax Senator will
explain.
Possibly the Poll-tax Senator’s can
didate for Governor will explain.
It certainly needs explanation.
The teaching of any form of religion, in
any school, at any time of day or night, by
the teachers of the school, makes that school
a sectarian institution.
All the lawyers and Jesuits on earth can’t
get round a common-sense proposition like
that; but Professor. Ashmore and Law-and-
Order Adams go right ahead violating, from
year to year, the supreme law of Georgia.
How about it, Professor?
HOW ABOUT IT, SAMUEL?
(I am happy to state that the public school
funds have been withdrawn from the Catho
lic schools in Augusta.
In a courteous letter, answering mine, Pro
fessor Lawton B. Evans informs me that the
Sacred Heart Academy and the Saint Mary’s
Academy used public school money, until the
spring of 1906, when the Board of Education
put a stop to it.)
Why doesn’t Governor Harris condescend
to give his attention to this Savannah matter)
What’s the use of his perambulating around
over the landscape, making little dinky-dory
speeches, about nothing in particular?
He swore to see thelawe enforced; IS Hff
DOING ITf
filled nearly all the diplomatic positions with
Romanists ?
How did the wicked and wily Republicans
manage to prevail upon New York Demo
crats to elect to the United States Senate a
4th degree K. of C. like the bigoted, pig'*
headed O’Gorman?
By what methods did the wily and wicked
Republicans prevail upon the Democratic
leaders in Congress to countenance the press
gag bills fathered by such 4th degree traitors
as Fitzgerald and Gallivan?
Tell us how the Republicans tricked a Dem
ocratic Congress into raising papal subjects,
sworn to papal allegiance, to the position of
Captains and Majors in the United States
Navy and Army I
CI ell us how the Republican tricksters man
aged to exclude all Protestant churches from
the Thanksgiving celebration of the Pan-
American Union I
Explain to us how it is that Republican
schemers can persuade the President to ignore
the anti-Mexican plottings of Cardinal Gib
bons, Archbishop Blenk, Archbishop Mora,
and Felix Diaz, at New Orleans, when the
same President made such a grandstand
business with old Huerta.
Explain to us how the Republicans pre
vailed upon President Wilson to ignore the
anti-British plottings of the American
Knights of Columbus and of the Ancient
Hibernians, when the daily papers were re-
(CONTINUED ON PAGE FOUR.)
When a governor swears to see to it that
the laws are executed, he ought to take some
action, in cases of flagrant lawlessness in the
Public School system.
If Governor Harris would take the matter
up with Professor Ashmore, there would be
something doing, mighty quick.
The State of Florida has a Governor who
dealt promptly and legally with a situation
exactly similar.
He ordered the withdrawal of public
money from those sectarian schools.
When is Superintendent Brittain going to
take cognizance of this Roman Catholic
graft and lawlessness?
When is Governor Harris going to do it?
It is up to you, gentlemen, and the people
have their eyes on you both.
By its action in 1906, the Augusta Board
of Education acknowledged that it had been
doing wrong.
But it was manly enough to face about, and
do righA.
When is your Board going to obey the law.
