Platform of Julian B. McCurry Who Announces for
Congress From Eighth District.
Io the People of the Eighth Congressional
District :
I am opposed to any office holder, state or
federal, retaining an office to which he has
been elected, while making a canvass for an
other. He should resign instead of drawing
bis salary ami seeking another office.
2. Those issues which formed the subject
of debate between President Wilson and Ex-
Justice Hughes during the late campaign may
Le considered as settled for the next four vears
at least, and having been one of those who
loyally supported the Democratic ticket. I will
1, \e my earnest support to the pres-
ident during his second term along the lines
approved by the people at the ballot box.
3. The high cost of living which excites
such grave disquietude for the future of the
common people is a matter where my sympa
thies are thoroughly enlisted with the ad
ministration, and I will co-operate to the ex
tent of my powers in the efforts being made
to break up illegal monopolies, combinations
and restraint of trade and other unlawful
practices which interfere with the natural
prices of the necessities of life.
4. If elected I will give my hearty support
to the Burnett immigration bill and other
similar measures which will project our coun
try from the illiterate and pauper hordes of
Europe and Asia.
5. Believing that free speech ami the free
dom of the press are the groat bulwarks of
civil and religious liberty, I am utterly op
posed to all such bills as those now pending in
Congress known as the Fitzgerald bill, the
Gallivan bill, and the Siegal bill. The effort
of such un-American legislation would be to
close the mails to the great bulk of Protestant
literature. Xo religion which has confidence
in its ability to defend itself will seek to hide
To the White Voters of the Eighth
Congressional District:
I am a candidate for Congress
for the short term, expiring March
4th, to fill the vacancy caused by
the death of the lamented Samuel
J. Tribble.
I ask the support of the voters,
and promise, if elected, to faithfully
discharge the duties of the office to
the best of my ability.
T. W. RUCKER.
To the Voters of the Eighth
Congressional District:
I am a candidate for the 65th
Congress of the United States
(long term) to represent the Eighth
District of Georgia.
I respectfully solicit the support
of the people.

behind the government and penalize legiti
mate attack. Begarding the bills above men
tioned as a clumsy effort of the Boman Cath
olic Church to stifle the voice of true Ameri
canism and Protestantism. I will combat them
in every legitimate manner.
G. The highest law of the land dedicated
our great government to a complete separa
tion of Church and State, a complete divorce
between the secular and sectarian, therefore f
am opposed to taking a single dollar out of
the public treasury for the use of any church,
any sectarian charity or any sectarian schools,
no matter what pretenses and subterfuges may
be used to cloak the true nature of such misap
propriations of the public funds and such a
violation of the fundamental principles upon
which our fathers built our government.
7. Our government is a political corpora
tion or creation designed for political and
secular purposes exclusively, therefore it has
no right or authority to send envoys, or am
bassadors to any church or any religious or
ganization, nor has it any right to receive
from any ecclesiastical organization an official
representative. ,
8. One of the greatest abuses in the ad
ministration of the post office department is
what is known as the franking privilege, or
the right of public men to send an unlimited
amount of stuff through the mails without
paying postage on it. This franking privilege,
intended originally to cover official communi
cations on official business, has grown into a
monstrosity which tolerates the carriage, free
ol cost, of all sorts of merchandise, junk,
speeches, books and documents, which have no
relation to governmental affairs, which bur
den is borne by the tax-payers.
9. For the first time in the history of the
government sectarianism triumphantly ex-
