Great Excitement in Doniphan.
•—The War Commenced.—We take
the following from the Squatter Sover
eign extra:
We learn from Mr. Newman of Doni
phan that Samuel Collins, of that place,
was killed, this morning about sunrise,
by Pat. Laugklin. As far as we have
been able to learn, the circumstances
are as follows:
Mr. Laugtilin recently made an ex
position of the midnight organisation
existing among the Abolitionists in the
Territory, called the Grand Encamp
ment and Regiment of the Kansas Le
gion.” Collins, it seems, was Colonel of
one of the regiments, and determined to
force Mr. Laughlin to a retraction or kill

year our own State has been peculiarly
blessed by- Heaveu. Whilst various Cities
and sections of our country have been de
solated by the ravages of disea-e, evoking in
their dire extremity, the profoun Jest sympa
thies of our hearts, the Destroying Angel,
with his pestilential breath, lias left our bor
ders uninvaded, and our people in the enjoy
ment of usual health. The rain and sun
shine have been dispensed propitiously, fill
ing our granaries with plenty, and dispell
ing all fears of famine or suffering* The
strife and rancor of party spirit are lulled
at least, for a season, inviting to a renewed
cultivation, of all the charities of social life,
and to friendly, fervent competition in tha
holy task, of preserving and perpetuating
our benign and happy institutions. A large
number of States have already appointed
and set apart Thursdajfithe 29th instant, for
the commendable service of giving thanks.
Georgia with grateful reverence and d*ep
humility may well join hands with this sister
hood of supplicating Sovereignties, and bow
ing around one common alter, implore the
continued mercies of Heaven upon herself and
our common. Country.
