REMARKS.
COTTO.Y. —In L< nj Staple there was very
little done: we have Heard of the sales of only
three or four small parcels of Maine, at 13 a li);
cents. Upland Cotton remains about the same !
as at our last; 7 a DA cents contitues the range, ‘
thougli the sales ofilie week were very limited.
The slock of Uplands now in this market is less
than at the same season for a number of years
past, and as shipments continue to be made on
conutry account, it is expected the stock on the
Ist of October will be very loty-
RICS.—-Tho Rice market was dull, except for ,
fresh beat, which has found buyers about as fast
as it was received. There was no prime in mar
ket The sales of inferior to good, were at 2a2s :
we therefore continue to quote prime, nominally,
s‘2s ; inferior to good, s*2 a*2 1-2.
Export of Rice fur the week end inn 25th inst.
; West-Indies - - - 37(3 casks.
| FLOUR has declined, several lots of fresh
ground having arrived in the week, we now quote j
best brands, fe 1-2 a GJ.
CORIS.- —Two cargoes of Corn, about 5000
; bushels arrived from Baltimore in the week, one
j was very prime, anu brought 75cts. the other was
sold at ti 1 cts. we quote GO a GGcts.
GROCERIES.—There was some few sales for
| the city trade, but not worth particularising, pri
j ces generally remain about the same. A cargo of
Turks Island Salt, was sold at 14 cts.
! FREIGHTS. —Two vessels arc loading for
; Liverpool at 3-Bd. for Cotton; there is nothing now
up for any other port in Europe. To New-York
75 cents for square, $1 for round bugs Cotton,
62 1-2 cents lor Iliee. To Boston and Provi

rgMIE subscriber lias taken out a Patent for an
JL improvement in lire method of cleaning, or
j hulling Rice, Clover seed and Coffee or ether
grain; the process is very simple and expeditious,
and much cheaper than any method now in u-e, •
and what is most important, does not bicak a sin
gle grain. A iiy person may try the experiment on
a small scale for fi v loliars. Take a cask, put
a shaft through it; round tho ends, pass a band
j round the cask ; put your rice in with some pob
j hies, broken flint stone, or coarse gravel; give it a
brisk motion, and you will find your grain weil
! hulled. For a large establishment the cylinders
j should be made off sheet iron, l-12th of an inch
thick, 2 1-2 feet diameter, and 7or 8 feet long,
suspended horizontally in rows the length oi the
house, all carried by one band, passing under one
and over the other alternately. At one end ofihe
cylinder is a door, 10 inches square, into which
the rice is put from an upper story, by means of
square spout^; across tiiis (i°or is a wire screen,
which prevents the pebbles from escaping when
| the grain is sufficiently lubbed. These cylinders
can be made ready to run lor twelve and a half
j cents a pound.
j He has also a patent for a press for packing cot
ton, by which two hands can pack 12 or 14 bales
a day price $l5O. The advantages of this press
is, that it may be put in the came room with the
{fin; the length is 13 feet, and 4 feet wide; the
press lies horizontally on the floor,
j Any person wishing to purchase rights for the
above machines, can have them on reasonable
I terms. Lv applying pest paid to the patentee.
