The following statement and Ra* solution was unanimously adopted, and ordered to be published. On the 24th of November, 1829, the Bank of Augustfi, exercising the common privilege of all similar In stitutions, declined receiving the bills of the Merchants’ &. Planters’ Bank of this City. The abusive ccnsurea which followed that measure, were received with the sentiments which they merited. In the mean time, the Merchants’ Sc Planters’ Bank, in the spirit of apparent hostility, hae been devoting itself to the collection of the Bills of thir ‘Bank, and pre senting them in. for redemp tion. The there fore, Resolves, 4#v-the purpose of more conveniently repelling this at tempt at annoyance again to receiv e the Notes of the Merchants’ Sc Plan ters’Bank to such extent as may not be considered involving too great a hazard : but as a duty to the pub lic, and itself, it declares its former 1 opinion of those Bills entirely unal tered, and now receives them, mere ly as affording in “the con test which the tjfivlPftarty has com menced. From the Augusta Courier. i THE war rages between the* Banks—their common mottjp is, The hardest fend off. But “fit think, the Draymen will get ull th&f advantage of the fight. They hava been drawing the specie back, and forwards, first to then to another, and back agtiih, go often, that, if they charge in proportion to the value of their loads we should be glad to change places with them a while. It has not been very long since f 10,000 were drajed from otto end of Broad street nearly to the o thcr, three times, wc beliove, in the course of one day. How often sim* ilar amounts have taken similar air ings, we have not room to tell. We under stand, however, that the Mer chants’ and Planters’ Bank drew 8100,000, in specie from the Bunk of Augusta on Tuesday last, and placed them in its vault. W'e would not call this a water-haul. But all the effect we see likely to result from this tit for-tat business, is that the rusty old fellows, which have been so long hidden from the sight of Heaven, will be rubbed into a con dition to deserve more the appellati on of “Shiners.” Our friend “Mo Intosh, East of the Panics, ” had better look westward ere it is too late. Those $ 100,000 are worth running North, South, East and West after. Be up and stirring. GEORGIA—-Wilkes County. Court of Ordinary. January Term 1830.
