Private Jim Gay
A Genuine Hero
Private Jim Gay, of Adrian,
did not equal the record of Cor
poral Alvin York, the Tennessee
mountain warrior, but he made
same little record for himself
when he capfurev 192 Germans.
Official records give him credit
for capturing that number, alone
and unaided. Gay is at his
in Adrian and after a rest there
wid enter special training which
the Government will give him
to fit him for lucrative employ
ment in the future. Gay was a
member in the 11th Infantry, snd
caught the bunch of Huns in a
dugout. He dropped several of
them with his rille as they wete
coming out, whereupon the re
mainder threw up their hands
and yelled “kamerad.”

A NEW ENTERPRISE
EOR TREUTLEN COUNTY
Brick Mill to Be Located on the
Treutien county now has a
new enterprise.
Mr. J. 11. Gillis and Dr, O. B.
Moye are erecting a brick mill
on the river about one-half mile
from Silver Bluff. Most of the
machinery has already arrived
and is being placed on the
grounds and it is only a matter
of a short time besore they will
be able to turn out brick in
large quantities. The mill will
have a capacity of thirty thous
and daily and the material that
they will turn out will be as
good as can be made anywhere.
We wish nothing but good
luck for this new enterprise and
see no reason why it should not
be an unbounded success.
Bonds Not Validated
Owing to the fact that the Tax
Assessors did not complete their
work in time for the Receiver to
make up a tax book, the valida
tion of the courthouse and jail
bonds was pottponed for a few
days. This being a new county
it was necessary that the State
Tax Assessor pass on the taxa
tion before rhe tax valuation
can be completed. It will be a
matter of only a few days until
this will be done as the Receiv
er is now making up a book pre
paratory to sending 'o the State
l ax Assessor.
Call For Bids To
Be Made Soon
As soon as the architects can
complete the plans for the court
house and bail, which will be
early next week, the Ordinary
expects to advertise for bids for
the erection of ihese structures.
The bids must be advertised for
thirty days in the paper where
the county advertisements are
published and as soon as this is
done work will commence on
the building of the courthouse
and jail.
Kills Large
Rattle Snake
Mr. Lawrence Williams, mail
carrier on Route 2, comes in
with a snake story. While mak
ing his rounds Wednesday he
saw a rattlesnake crossing the
road in front of his car. Calling
to some small boys who were
playing near the spot, he sent
them to a nearby house for a
gun with which he shot the
make. He had seven rattlers
and a button and was and was
an unusually large snake.
