Tax Commissioner Says Tag Sales Slow
Urges Treutlenites Make Early Purchase
Treutlen County Tax
Commissioner Sidney Smith
has reminded County residents
that hours for purchase of
motor vehicle tags are 9 a m to
5p m Monday through Friday,
and 9 a m to 12 noon on
Saturdays.
Governor Jimmv Carter has
announced that, "under no
circumstances will there tie any
extension of the deadline for the
purchase of 1971 vehicle tags
past April 1 1971 ”
The Governor noted reports
from courthouses throughout
the state that tag purchases
were running far behind
anticipated levels and stated
that extensions cost all

worship and the open house will
be from 3:00 - 4:30 p m

room, rest rooms, baptistry.

Observe National FFA
Week February 20-27
"Involved in America's
Future” is the theme of Future
Farmers of America over the
nation this wei’k as they observe
National FFA Week Here in
Georgia, 20.275 FFA ers will lie
observing this event by bolding
special school and civic club
programs. FFA parent son
banquets, radio and television
programs and other special
activities
Governor Jimmy Carter, in
officially proclaiming the week
of February 2027 as Future
Farmers of America Week in
Georgia, stated, “It is vital to
our well being that we train
ski lied farmers and ranchers to
provide services to the farmer
and process and distribute farm
products”
FFA members are high
school students of vocational
agriculture There are nearly
400.()()() members in 9,000
chapters over the nation
The primary aim of the
Future Farmer organization is
to help develop rural leadership
and good citizenship and to
stimulate students to better
achievement in their studies
and work toward successful
employment

learning and practicing
Treutlen FFA's To Compete In
Rural Electrification Contest
According to FFA advisors
H H Glisson and L. C. Hunter,
contestants in the area
electrification contest will
compete for cash prizes and for
an opportunity to compete in the
State Rural Electrification
Contest on March 13.
The area contest is divided
into three parts,” said Mr
Glisson “Each contestant must
present a three to four minute
talk on “Rural Electricity in my
Future”. He will be judged on
knowledge, how well be follow's
his subjects, presentation,
appearance and his ability to
stay within the time limitations
The second part of the contest
will be a 25 question true-false
examination, The third part will
be a wiring problem that he will
be assigned ”
The wiring problem, which
will count 50 percent of his
grade, will be judged on safety,
efficiency, time required and
neatness

the 1971 Vikings squad is
scheduled to get started

Daily practice sessions are
slated to be held in the
afternoons after school,
continuing for about 3 weeks,
and ending with the big annual
spring game, according to the
coach
“It’s extremely important
that we have a good, solid
spring practice this year,”
Coach Whitaker said “We lost
a number off last year’s squad,
so we need to really get down to
work to try to find somebody to
fill these gaps ”
A few players counted on for
next fall's squad are expected to
be still involved in basketball
when grid practice begins next
week “But, we’ve gotta get
going with spring drills so we
can get through and won’t
conflict with track and
baseball ” the coach remarked

out for spring drills

Georgia Department of
Education, 34 percent of llth
and 12th grade vocational
agriculture students are
enrolled in these specialized
courses
As a result of their project
programs in production
agriculture last year, Georgia
FFA members grew 9,935 head
of beef cattle, 33,039 hogs,
owned 1,893 head of dairy cattle
which produced almost six
million pounds of mild, and
produced 8,339 acres of
vegetables In addition, they
grew almost 10 million pounds
of broilers and provided
Georgians with over 15 million
eggs

FFA is sponsored by the
Vocational Division of the
Georgia Department of
Education State FFA

scholarship and a chance to
compete in the State Contest
