trine of Nullification ns explained and
enforced by theSouth Carolina politicians,

Georgia, as neither n peaceable or elli
cient remedy in our opinion, and as loading
to disunion and all the horrors of civil war,
before we have said, we are either willing
or ripe for such a crisis.

by our high and honorable Chief Ma
gistrate not only in relation to the Tariff
question but in reference to the other tnt
portunt and embarrassing subjects upon
which he has been rbquiretb to act, has
boen^regulated strickle by a rigid sense of
moral obligation and with an unwavering

tion in any form. Col. Jones of Colum
bus followed in favour of it ns explained
in Mr. Jefieison'* third Virginia Resolu
tion. The argument was concluded by Mr.-
B. Martin in favour of tho resolution, which
on division'passed. Tho Sill passed unani
mously. A Resolution was then offered by
Dr. Boswell approbating the conduct of
Messrs. Fortythand Wayne in their recent
) vote upon tho Tariff. H. J. Harwell
Esq. was opposed to it...lie intended to
vole lor Judge Wayne, and approved both
bis courfe and that <rt Mr. Forsyth, but ho
deprecated any resolution which would
mako an invidious charge Upon any of
the delegation; bo believed the hearts of
ail were with'the South, and that all were
entitled to equal confidence. ..tilt resolu
tion was withdrawn. On motion it was re
solved tl,ut the proceedings be published
in the papers of Columbus.

PREAMBLE AND RESOLUTIONS.
We the people of ■Harris cqjmty, in
common with our fellow citizens of other
counties, feel i! our privilege as well a*
nuty to express our sentiments in relation
o the Tat iff. We have no hesitation in
■viftg, that so fin as it operates as a .pro
tection to the labour Had capital of one to
lie prejudice of that of another portion,
of the Union, it is unjust, Unconstitutional
and oppressive. And although we sin
cerely believe, that* our happy Govern
ment, if wisely and fairly administered, is
fully adequate, to sucure to us and our
posterity, the invaluable blessings of
freedom, yet we cannot tamely submit to
such a palpable violation of tile Constitu
tion, sudi a gioss encroachment upon our
rights as this “ American svs'nin” fastens
j upon us. No! We appeal to the good
[sense and patriotism of our. brethren, ns
j we too ofton have done, but in vaili, "lid
j declare to them, they must not and shidl
nof impose this obnoxious policy upon us
j But “ Oovcrnmants long established,"
I and espicially one, like ours, which lias
