Mrrming Chronicle. tan 8 9 '“ °**o Showing day lor Washing. w ,»y Of Kentucky, fie intended to j?” 1 and to roach Washington he tween the 18th and ttth of October. A correspondent has sent us a new ver sion of “ the history of the fiouse that Jack built,” which lie advises us to publish with appropriate cuts. The lust are not exactly in our way, hut his adaptation, ns the musicial men say, of the ancient ainry to the men and things of l|te present day, is too good to bo suppressed; the publica tion of aha whole atTeir might he Well enough for some enterprising bookseller. In his first plate, Uncle Snm is leaning upon his working shovel, surrounded bv bags which bearjhe inscription, “ United Statos Brink Funds;” p,,d underneath commences the interesting history—“ibis it the malt that lay in the house that Jack built.” In the next plate the Courier rind Enquirer ;s figured as a rat munching the contents of certain large bags marked “gold.” In the nest is a big-whiskered cat with a dying rat in his mouth, hbeilcd “J. W. Webb," and is declared to bo " the cat which killed the rat, A-.c.”— The fourth plate shows the cat still called "Webb,” stand inj* on a bank or •• hum- |ij|ock” of crumbling sand, with tail and hack up, and battling spitefully, though fainly, against n stout looking watch-dog sho “ tyorries the cat,” but whoso natpo Iclicacy forbids our quoting. The lie- sort of tho Mnjouty of the Bank Com- miltee, figures as “the cow with the crumpled horn, that tossed,” hut :hcro is some mistake here, for that report jor^d nobody but the “cat and 'the rat,” iifd finished the work of the dog. The vOurier and Enquirer is again figured as ' the maiden all forlorn,” ami in tho op- losite plate, n tattered scampish .looking plow called Anti-masonry, is the man ■to kissed this maiden; the worthy couple me at last married by Mr. Henry Clay, * the priests all Shaven and shorn,” am) tok sneaking enough, ashamed pruhably T the connexion, though we see not why ey should bo. The people rejoicing ver the fate of tho cat and the rut o personified by the noble looking cock lio crows so cheerily in the last plate.— rime of the cmhloms are ingenious ougli, anr! tho point of many, will lublless be apparent io the editor of the ourier.—.V. Ellis, long known as one of.the most industrious and enterprising men in Mucon, received a pistol ball in his abdomen, of which ho died in about three hours. This a {Dieting occurrence has thrown n gloom over the whole town. Mr. Ellis was greatly re- specied for his moral virtues, his upright ness of condilct, his enterprisiug genius, and his untiring industry.. One of the (list settlers in Macon, tlie’ town owes much to him for its rapid growth and unprece dented prosperity. What Girard did for Philadelphia,"Mr. Ellis was doing for Ma con. He pried into every avenue of bu siness; he scrutinized every department of indusiry; and in every one was his infiu- enco felt. Of Iris unfortunate connexion with tho Macon Bank, (which was believed to be the occasion of ihe rencontre,) though wo have'for ourselves full faith, in the inno cence and integrity of Mr. Ellis, wo are not prepared to satisfy the public. We know that ho was proparing a full devel- opement of hifrelation with that institu tion; and we have no doubt, had ho livod, that his iiroocetiat would l|ave been fully established. 1 Mr. E, was n nMivo of Philadelphia, and whs about .14 years old. ,IIo was a rcsjrocted membor of ifio Baptist Church; a Vic;-President of tho Georgia Agricul tural Society; and a member of several other religious and charitable associations. He has left a bereaved widow, two help less orphans, arid a long train of relations aud friends to mourn his untimely exit. Byrom surrendered hintself to the civil authority, and has been bound over to an swer his appearance at court. Georgia Telegraph. , „ sun, lo Humriton Harri. Co. on Friday morning «.e 56,mat.
