Hi is so unmistakably • man ol earnestness and candor, that the peoplf lael at once tbat bs U abova th# art* of the demagogue and tbat ha will do to trust and to rely upon. This ia tba clasa of politician* whom they desire to represent them—in whom only they can confiJa in titnee of political ebiesnery and party log rolling lika the p-esent. Cheering accounts reach us from the lower portions of the District. Our friends below appeal to us of Muscogee to do our tqhole. duty, arfti promiaq us tbat if we will sleml np properly for our worthy and patri otic standard-bearer, they xvitl make the wietory uura. We have a glorious chance to redeem the District, and we must not sacrifice it to local or personal feeling. It is the third fight for “Pyrrhus and his elephants," and confusion already manifests itself in their ranks. Continue to pelt them with bath of fire, and in their disorder and desperation they will trample down one another. They must do it, for they have no political principle, ulterior to this elec tion. in common. Their candidate cannot support both Protection and Free Trade— Mquatter Sovereignty and Protection to Hlavery ih fho Territories—Extravagance and Retrenchment—Buchanan and Douglas. And even if he should blink these issues, and succeed by dodging aud buah-wbacklhg, a* soon aa the election ia over, tbe discor dant advocates ol these conflicting policies will be quarreling as to tvhieh has obtained the viclory—just aa the Administration and "‘Southern Righta” wings ere now doing in the adjoining Diatrict over in Alabama. We say to our friends, then, stand firm and united; b« not dismayed by the recnl- lection of former reverses, or lod astray by personal preferences; but close ranks at ouce, rally around a standard-bearer in every way worthy of your confidence and support, and thg victory is within your grasp. Remember 7'ennoseee and Ken- tacky, where our friends have rodermrd many harder Districts than Ibis, against boasted Democratic majorities of thou sands, and take courage from their glorious example* The Dlircrcuce llctwocn Them. The Albany Patriot (a Democratic paper auppnrting Crawford) regards the contest hrliVvsen its favorite aud Den. lfjthune aa an unfortunate family quarrel, with no ma terial conflict of principle involved. It saya: “Mr. Orawiord and Don. Uethunr substan tially apree upon the theory of our Govern- men». Their disagreement js only as to the necessity, policy and propriety of making the question of direct taxation at Mrs time paramount to all other question*." (Italics ita own.) It nevertheless ridicule* Den. llrlhune'a Free Trade real as being at (hit time Quixotic, and name* several other questions which the Detnecracy deem ol prior importance and to which they must now attend. Neither does it believe that Free Trade is a universal cure-all—as sure death to all political evils as DcDratb'a Oil is to all pain. *‘It has loo much the ring of a quark medicine advertisement, that essuir• tbe cure of every disease lo which prohibiting the' African slave been nominated • lor Congress by ■n.n I. .ubjeet, by tket oo. remedjr, pn .tdej of lit 7|b Ull „ ict . \, it be wet! ehate* before /«**«," Ac. i power.
